    Updating memory card collection.

I have used many brands of dashcam but oddly never a Viofo. I have found that an under-spec or failing power supply, or a loose cable, causes cams to kill memory cards. I always make sure my power supply is generously above spec and secure in the sockets. Some cams are fussier than others.

    Updating memory card collection.

Over the years I kept all my dead memory cards and it's notable that very few of the dead ones are Samsung. I've also found Samsung cards are trouble-free in every cam I've used them in, unlike other cards which claim equal or higher speeds at lower prices, but can't maintain those speeds under...

    About the Mio MiVue's

Several years ago I had a couple of Mio Mivue 528/538 when they first came out and they turned out to be reliable cameras with decent lifespan and reasonable video quality. The PC playback software also worked well. Reliability and longevity of the Mios was vastly better than the widely-sold...

    SD card

In my experience, it's not the headline speed of the card that matters; it's the ability of the badly fragmented card to maintain a reasonable, uninterrupted write speed while also deleting older files at the same time. It's a whole different world to the published speed tests. Some surprisingly...

    Connection issue

Also found two files (programs?) that I can't remember what they do - perhaps a failed PC program or perhaps a program required to add .elf files. Also found .elf file update instructions. Again, I take no responsibility for adverse occurences resulting from these files. Links: 'setup...

    Connection issue

I have an old MEGA account so I just uploaded the files to that. I put all the firmwares into sub-folders within a larger folder. Link here (took about 15 minutes to upload): https://mega.nz/folder/5t8QmIaC#9gkSbKFbZ5CWeUpHL8Th_w Although I have no malicious intent, please note that I take no...

    Connection issue

I have at least six JooVuu X firmwares on an old computer. I generally preferred to go straight for the .elf file because the .bin files usually failed. jv-x_160625.elf jv-x_160704.elf jv-x_160723.elf jv-x_160816.elf jv-x_160816.test.elf jv-x_160906.elf I have the .bin files, too, plus some...

Not all micro SD cards are created equal .... often the source of recording troubles.

Memory cards are designed to write short bursts onto an unfragmented card. Dashcams do the opposite: long writes onto very fragmented cards. In my experience, Samsung, Sandisk, Transcend, Toshiba, Lexar do well in dashcams even though they don't claim to be fast/high-performance cards. Also in...

    Halfords HDC300 Dash Cam

Maybe you have a heat-reflective windscreen. Some GPS devices - mostly older/lower-tech - won't work in one of my cars because of it.

Capacitor cams with battery for RTC

Thanks, @jokiin :) I should add that I have nothing against Street Guardian - I like your cams and my wife and I have a handful of SG cams between us which we rate very highly - but it's nice to have two *different* and unrelated front cams to reduce the chance of the same problem affecting...

Capacitor cams with battery for RTC

I'm looking for suggestions for cams which use a capacitor for saving the last file but which have a small button-type battery or equivalent backup arrangement to retain date and time if the capacitor drains after several days of not being used. I suppose I would also grudgingly accept a...

Dash - a new website to view and analyse dash cam videos

Our household has multiple cars (three or four) and each car is usually fitted with two front and one rear cam. Two front cams greatly reduces the chance of not capturing an important moment due to a problem with a cam, its memory card, power supply or user error. I have two or more of some of...

    Buying My 3rd Dashcam

In general, with high quality image sensors, the higher the resolution the smaller the pixels on the sensor and the less light they gather, therefore more motion blur at high speed, in poor weather or at night.

Be careful on snow and ice... ran a red light... hit the curb...

Modern 'normal' tyres rely almost completely on a chemical attraction between the tyre's rubber and the tarmac. If anything comes between the rubber and the tarmac (snow, mud, ice, leaves, sand, gravel etc) or even if the tarmac is very rough, they may have almost no grip at all. The more...

Be careful on snow and ice... ran a red light... hit the curb...

Yes, Michelin CrossClimate are 'B' rated for wet grip in summer conditions. But if you look at the video clip I posted earlier, the 'B' wet grip rated Michelin CrossClimate are superior to the 'A' rated Continental Premium Contact on a wet road below about 13'C. Above 13'C the Premium Contact...

Be careful on snow and ice... ran a red light... hit the curb...

Picture attached with summary of UK tyre type definitions. :) 'Summer' tyres usually have three or four bands around the circumference. 'All Season' tyres usually have a V-pattern in the tread. 'Winter' tyres have a V-pattern or knobbly pattern with thousands of tiny wavy slits in the tread.

Be careful on snow and ice... ran a red light... hit the curb...

The car I currently have CrossClimates on previously had Continental Eco Contacts. The CrossClimates are not inferior in any way and in most respects are noticeably better. A lot of modern cars have eco tyres. Eco = low rolling resistance = low grip. With the UK weather as variable as it is...
