So i have the camera about two weeks for now.
There are quite significant improvement in focus and sharpness compared to my old LS430W.
The night video is very good, especially in very dark lighting conditions.
But this comes at the expense of other cars license plates numbers.
I must say that i don't have any problem with the focus of the camera as other people have mentioned.
When i parked the car under direct sunlight for a few hours when its 30+ degrees celsius out or driving for along time i never noticed in any problem with the focus.

I upload some orginal videos if some one want the check the quality.

Impressive video.

Can I ask what firmware your cam is running?

I returned my LS460w. It was a shame because in the right conditions the video quality, both day and night, were excellent. Probably as good as anything out there.

However video quality suffered on a warm day plus there were excessive reflections on a sunny day. These windscreen reflections are not present to the same scale with a LS430w and a LS330w, so it was definitely an issue with the LS460w.

I would be tempted to go back to the LS460w if these issues were resolved.

Hopefully it will stay that way - maybe they're using a new lens mount? You already had the focus issues with the LS430W so hopefully they've fixed that.

As Tom says what firmware version is this one running as I'm wondering if it's a new revision now? Is it ok with 64GB cards?

The night video looks great anyway, fingers crossed this camera stays working as I know you've had issues with pretty much every camera you've had to date!

Meanwhile, I haven't seen any problems in the focus, and belive me that i ran some tests with the camera.
I don't have 64GB card so i can't checked it.

Yeah that's a new revision - the originals had a firmware from June!

Fingers crossed focus stays good as when the 460 was in the right conditions it really was as good as pretty much anything at 1080p - it just hated the reflections in my car!

You're probably safer with a 32GB card in there as it was too unreliable with a 64GB.

Nice to see they've taken feedback onboard though :)

Compare a screenshot from a 430 with the 460. You can see more/wider with the 460, so the reflections will be more too!

Hi mate,

Your pics prove my point regarding windscreen reflection on the Ls460w. As you can see above, the reflections are so bad with the Ls460w the grey car is not even visible :)

I appreciate the 460w has a slightly larger FOW but IMHO that does not account for the difference compared to the 430w and 330w which I've tried. Not an expert but probably down to combination of different h/w and s/w in relation to the 430w and its predecessors. As I say, that's a layman's thinking. I accept I could be totally wrong.

It would be interesting to know if changes to the cam are limited to the firmware or if the lens hardware has been modified.

I'd like to see day time footage from the camera with the new FW minus a CPL fitted if anybody can oblige.

Cheers,

T.

Maybe one of the DOD resellers could make the August firmware update available for the customers that do have problems?

this is normal video quality when windscreen is clean...
stick camera like that, and then you will see why windscreen is that important for quality of recording at night...

[tested and confirmed]

Please don't think I'm hijacking this thread but I too have received a LS460w. Still on the old/original FW here in UK interestingly enough.

Looking at the sticker on the underside of the camera there's a date 08/2014 . Is this the date of manufacture?

Can I ask what date you have Saar on your LS460w?

Impressed that I can freeze-frame at speed and capture plates clearly of cars travelling at similar speeds, see below. This was something I struggled to do with other DOD cameras.

Raw file if anybody wants a look (340MB):

Are you talking about the little sticker in the form of a clock?

If the focus and everything else is fine with the camera, there is no reason that you be unable to capture number plates clearly.

Yep. It will have the year and an arrow pointing to a month.

After watching your video, I think it would be better if you direct the camera down and capture less sky.

Thanks. Will try various positions for the best video.

try this (you will be surprised about quality),
after that you will be sure that your camera is faulty or just your windscreen make poor picture.

I'll have to choose the location with care, otherwise I'll have my entire wing mirror whipped off !! They'll have your gold teeth in certain parts of Manchester if you yawn for long enough.

That looks bang on to be honest - it's when the weather is dark and dingy like it is here today that dashcams just fall apart and smudge everything in sight :/

What firmware is it Tom - the 13th August 2014 like Saar21 has?
