The Azores anticyclone "parked" southwest of the Iberian Peninsula since April, bringing hot weather from North Africa, making your weather miserable and sending all the rain to the Caribbean. Yeah, "Summer" is still lingering on down here and doesn't seem like it wants to leave. For the last 6 days temperatures have been oscillating between 33 and 37ºC (91 and 99ºF) and the forecast for the next 10 days doesn't look very promising:
Last September was the driest September in 87 years:
The situation has become very serious, so serious that in a dam just 70 km (43 mi) south of Lisbon, a 200 year old bridge that was submerged by the water when the reservoir was filled up 60 years ago, is now completely visible:
