Hi Guys,

I have my hands on two 70mai Dash cams...
One is English, one is Chinese.

Is there any comparison or work I can do in order to figure out if the Chinese one will accept (or accept with modification) the English firmware?

Really like these cameras, just want an English voice if possible!

I just got Chinese version of camera. I managed to capture Chinese update. If English version has updates as well you can try to capture too.

I would try something like that:
1. So, in the mobile app, you first download update when there is available.
2. Next step is to push update to the camera (sd card actually).
3. On chinese version, you can find file "SD_CarDV.bin" on the sd card. I don't know how it is called on english version...
4. Copy the file to another card which is previously formatted with chinese camera and insert the card to actual chinese version of camera.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure what will happen. And I'm not responsible for any damages to your device.

Yes, the software is different. But hardware is the same as far as I know.

My guessing is that the update process is the same in both firmwares: check the bin file on sd card and install it. But I don't have english version to try it...

Hey, I was interested in the same thing, but I've only got the Chinese version. Haven't tinkered with it at all but worst case scenario I'll just modify the app to set the voice volume to 0. Alternatively I'll just disconnect the speaker inside the camera.
Could you upload any English files you've gotten your hands on? Hopefully we'll be able to figure this out, I'm not keen on waiting for them to say there's no way to do it just to get you to buy an English version when it's identical hardware.

Thanks!

Next firmware update I’ll try and grab the bin file.

Is there any way to get the bin file off the camera it’s currently installed on?
To save waiting for an update...

I'm not sure, i think within a few weeks we might have an official English firmware update but idk- right now i'm just taking apart the 70mai and disconnecting the speaker. I stripped a screw, though. :s

You dont need to disconnect speaker. Easiest way to mute cam is
1. Connect to dash cam Wi-Fi on phone
2. Run Chrome
3. Go to http://192.72.1.1/cgi-bin/Config.cgi?action=set&property=Camera.Menu.ApkGetVol&value=VOL0
after that camera is muted.

Next firmware update I’ll try and grab the bin file.

There is a way to get firmware and it is really simple. You need to instal Packet Capture app from Google play, then open it, install certificate. Next inside of the app find 70maidashcam app. Go to 70mai app and click on firmware update. Go back to Packet Capture, click on first captures, on first option, on the bottom there will be link to firmware.

Chinese firmware link: HTTP://rom-cdn.midrive.com.cn/SD_CarDV_70mai_1_0_3.zip

If you will be so kind and share link to English firmware, I will try to install it on Chinese version of cam.

Holy crap, thanks very much! Muted for now- you're incredible. Do you have a larger list of editable values? Where did you get that value from? I take it there's probably some other Xiaomi product that runs the same software?

Hi,
This feature is the same as in Mijia Car DVR - I've just tested if links from that camera works.

Link that outputs all of camera properties:
http://192.72.1.1/cgi-bin/Config.cgi?action=get&property=*

To set property you need to change "get" to "set" in link and add &value=YYY on end of it. Link should look like this:
http://192.72.1.1/cgi-bin/Config.cgi?action=set&property=XXX&value=YYY
where XXX is property, and YYY is Value.
I have not tried to change all of them, some looks interesting, but I didn't have time lately to work with it. Honestly it looks that it is possible to make own app to manage camera - with muting and more options that standard one, but this will need a lot of work with testing properties from link above.

I am really curious what will happen when I will try to put english firmware to chinese version, but to check that, we need to wait for somebody to post english firmware.

I will do this in the morning!
You guys are insanely helpful :)

Okay, so the muting works, and the properties listing page works fine...

There's now update available for my English cam just yet, as its running 1.0.3ww firmware right now.
Any way to look into the app and see where its checking for updates?

Just blowing the dust off my old android phone so I can do this...
Don't want to jailbreak an iPhone 8, and I didn't want to download an Android emulator on to the Mac.

I'll hopefully have a link in the next few hours.

Mine is already updated with the latest firmware, so it doesnt see a valid update waiting. it returns a "false" when checking for updates. no URL to english firmware anywhere.

i am planning to return mine now. I was misinformed by gb about the version, claiming to be the english one.

one question. how do people that have the chinese version trust the camera and plan to use it to save a recording in an emergency. for me, that is the deal killer, i can not, in a reliable way mark that video as emergency.

Elliott, I would like to know if there is anything new with the link to your English version?
I really want to be able to change my camera voice to English...

Thanks in advance,
Idan.

Hi Elliott,
do you have a link for downloading the Android App for the english version of the cam?
If you check on your Android device with a File Explorer App (like ES File Explorer) you will find on your internal memory or SDCard root a folder called "MiDriveDashApp". Inside this folder you will find a "midrive" file, can you post the content of it?
Thanks!

Hello, the English version uses the same application as the Chinese version. Get the firmware from the English version of the air we can not work. It is necessary to extract the firmware from the DVR by the programmer.

The app is downloading the firmware via https from the server. The only thing that we need is to get the link to the english version of the firmware. After that we can manually upload the firmware to the APP folder and push it into the device. Of course this will be successful only if the device is not verifying the firmware language version.

Currently there is a new version of the app (with different look comparing to those that was available for download from the web page) for Android available on the play strore. There is a different app version for China, US, and rest of the world. For non china version all FAQ's, installation manual etc are currently in English. In the app .xml files are those links:

<param key="h5UsingSkills" value="https://help.70mai.asia/217.html"/>
<param key="h5Instruction" value="https://help.70mai.asia/218.html"/>
<param key="h5InstallGuide" value="https://help.70mai.asia/219.html"/>
<param key="h5Faq" value="https://help.70mai.asia/221.html"/>
<param key="h5WifiHelp" value="https://help.70mai.asia/222.html"/>

but I didn't found how the app is looking for a new version of firmware.

The non china version of the app is working with china version of the device but it is still looking for Chinese version of the firmware.
