Test setup

Will be using Kingston 32GB Micro SDHC for the recordings

70Mai dashcam app

Initial firmware out of the box is version 1.0.1 released on 2018.08.09

You’ll need to use the Chinese version of the 70Mai app in order to add the 70Mai Pro as the Google Play Store version can only add the 70Mai dashcam. You can scan the QR codeshere (click here) for the Chinese version 70Mai app.

Recorded in 2560×1440 30fps using H.265 with an overall bit rate of 22.4 Mb/s.

Final thoughts
The first impression I got when I saw the 70Mai Pro is this looks like a Thinkware dashcam.

The 70Mai Pro is a good camera which records with good quality. The 1944p is in 4:3 aspect ratio seems a bit weird for modern dashcams but you can record more vertically though.

You'll need to change to H.265 encoding in order to record in 1440p & 1944p.

Unable to try out the de-fog features as the weather didn’t permit to test this.

great write-up Jeremy, kudos!
a few questions here:
was it Chinese version and did you have a chance to test it with GPS add-on
Cheers!

Thank you. I didn't get hold of the GPS module. So couldn't test the ADAS features.

..no worries, cheers!

When it'll be released with global firmware and how much?

got the english version ..
however few issues..

1. Screen does not switch off
2. Does not response to voice commands (take photo, sound record on/off, wifi on /off).

good to have

1. Remove 70mai pro watermark
2. Speed to be indicated (with GPS unit install).

I bought two, and one had these issues. It also had a warning about the battery being low. Running the car for a while to let it charge, then restarting later on seems to have made all three problems go away.

Hello yeohkt,
From which menu can you delete the 70mai pro watermark and activate the speed indicator?
Thank you

Hello and thank you for this review.
Looks promising.

One question: does this cam has possibility of time-lapse parking mode or low-bitrate parking mode?
Or is it only recording while hit (G-sensor)?

Hello,

please help me with issues,
I have 70mai pro with gps, camera is permanently plugged-in (also when car is locked camera is powered) ,
When I go to work in the morning, camera does not activate recording automatically,
(24hours monitoring is working )
Currently I have lighter charger from YI dash cam FHD 60fps
I expect that gps or accelerometer should activate recording during drive
How I can fix it

Thanks, for help

How should we connect this cam to power source, to activate parking surveillance?

You'll need the 70mai 3 wires hardwire kit but it can operate the parking mode using it's own built-in battery for a short duration only.

(...)short duration only.
It depends. The cam can operate in recording mode for 50-60 minutes on it's own battery. But the single recording of a parking incident takes only 1 minute. If there is no incident the cam can wait for it (in parking surveillance mode) with active accelerometer sensor only and minimum power consumption for several days. Maybe even 10 days if someone actually cares to check it.
