VIOFO A119 V3

Good choice and cheaper than many others.

Sorry, missed the 1440p part in the V2 footage... Still, the V2 sensor shows its limitations in physical resolution.
I do expect the V3 to improve in IQ with time. As I'm in the market for a new dash cam, I might just opt for the V3 and see how it improves.
Savvy dashcam buyers know to wait a few months before purchasing new models, allowing time for kinks, bugs, flaws to be identified and fixed.
Many aren't aware Viofo is about to release another new dashcam model with >stable< 4-clip GPS mount, not the unstable single clip 2016 design. The new A129 Pro has 4K resolution allowing the owner to select 4K or 2K or 1080p and supports optional Rear camera with improved WiFi control. Hopefully the extended Alpha testing phase currently underway solves the brightness issue most 4K sensors have in lower light conditions. I know exactly which offset code to MOD first. The A119/P/S V2 model days are numbered, all Hail the A129 (y)

Let's not write off the A119 just yet. V3 has only just been released.

Although I still use the A129 (not Pro) for testing, I'm considering buying the V3 because it's available now and it is delivering good quality, high resolution single-channel video both day & night.

What will the rear camera resolution be?

Its too bad the A119 V3 reused the old V2 camera body instead of professional looking A129 design, it could then have been named A139 giving the future 4K Pro extreme title of A149 (y)(y)
Using my new preferred model name example : the A149 Pro 4K front camera will only support 1080p rear camera due to video signal frame stutter limitations transmitted through generously long 3meter unshielded rear cable.
My renamed A119V3 shoehorned into A129 body creating A139 could then stand above the competition leaving the A119 V1 V2 /A119S /A119Pro in the dust of history where firmware model confusion would finally stop.
Unfortunately this never happened so future generations will continue to mistakenly load V2 FW on V3 and V3 FW on V2 forever in a frenzied madness to improve their old school single clip EVA pad dashcams, also known as BootLoader corruption.

I think you have put the A129 far too low in the list, presumably because it's resolution is a bit low for your small number plates. For Europe use, I would put the A129 equal to the A119 V3. In situations that require fast shutter speed it wins, in situations which require high resolution the A119 V3 wins. However, you should also take into account that the A129 actually records the same number of pixels as the A119 V3, and the 50% that are facing out the back window can be extremely valuable, so you need 2 A119 V3 to compete properly, which makes the A129 great value, especially with the added Wifi, Bluetooth remote and single memory card with synchronised front and rear video files.

transmitted through generously long 6m unshielded rear cable.
That is going to kill everyone's DAB radio, and probably FM radios too :D

And I think your naming scheme is going to confuse a lot of people, so much simpler to stick to a newer and better version of the A119, and leave the A149 name for the 4 channel wireless camera ;)

The A129 at 1080p resolution is excellent and should be #3 since the A119 V2 is discontinued and replaced by V3, it can also move to #2 since A119Pro is also discontinued. My list isn't comparing features its all about image quality and 1080p cannot be equal to 1440p no matter how many accessories it has. Once the 4K (3840x2160p) Pro Duo is released it will replace both 1080p and 1440p models since it supports all three resolutions plus all the toys.
If you want to see the A129 run at 2560x1440p resolution just ask, I'll create a 'up scaled' 1440p A129 MOD just for you.

Does it give any benefit?

Generally, if I am scaling the result of a 1080 sensor then I would want to go to an exact multiple of the number of pixels so that there is no blurring between adjacent pixels. So for an upscale I would want to go 4K (1080 * 2 = 2160), not 1080 * 1.33333334 = 1440 which is bound to cause some pixel level distortion to the image since pixels are elements, they can't be split.

I think I will stick with the real 4K A129 Pro

I made such a cable, soldered the mini-USB a straight, red, yellow wire together and to + ACC.
Since there are only three wires in the standard cable, I had to run it through a thermo pipe for an AV signal.
Startup time 119, five seconds.
At an input voltage of 8 volts, 119 starts normally.

Wacky Wednesday What-If idea
Advanced Parking Mode features are in high demand. Could the new A119V3 include an Extended Parking Protection option that remains in low power buffered Standby mode until triggered by super sensitive G-sensor event generating combined 15 second buffer video before event + 30 second normal video after event with audio (45 sec clip) + 15 snapshots one for each buffered second + Alert notification icon saved along top display for quick confirmation of incident when returning to vehicle ?
This would allow long duration Parking protection without 100's of useless visual detection clips recorded filling the memory card and create instant JPG photos of event.

Sent an email to VIOFO Australia for when A119 V3 will be available in Australia and RRP

It happens that A119V3 does not turn on when you start the car - not often, but it is already annoying, today it happened a couple of times.
Yes, and on the table at home, just happened.
Last firmware, but at all this happened !!
How to explain is not yet clear.

You need to replace that camera, I had the same issue

Does it do it with firmware V1.0 or V1.01?
