Not sure! it doesn't always freeze up, just on occasion does it freeze up.

The battery probably is for when power is shut off to the camera it came close out that last video clip, also for holding the settings such time and date.

Actually I don't see any reference to the DR32 dash camera in the forum you pointed out. It seems that the forum is related to their key chain cameras. I do not have a key chain camera nor do I have any of the other camera's that they are selling on that web site.

I disagree! I opened the ebay case the same day I received the camera, check out hxelepro videos that they have as a demonstration. The audio is excellent, I don't believe you can compare it with other camera's given the fact that Techmoan's video and the video in the auctions have excellent...
