Any thoughts on the GoPro HERO3 Black Edition as a dash cam that has just been announced?

It can record at very high resolutions 2.7K and 4K. Seems pretty impressive

Looks like it is an impressive camera. In the past, the GoPro cameras have been great multi-purpose cameras but not great dedicated dash cams for the following reasons:

1) No loop recording
2) Poor night video quality
3) Large size / not discreet
4) No auto start / auto off

From what I have briefly read on the Hero3 is that it allows for loop recording. They claim night video has been improved but I will wait until real user videos appear. The camera is much smaller which is a great thing, but it is not too discreet. Not sure about the auto start / auto off.

If it does have auto start and auto off and night quality is excellent, this might be the camera to beat.

There are many videos on Youtube on the Hero3 Black Edition at night. Not very impressive. Here is one.

In better lit roads it performs better but for the price, quite disappointing.
