DR500 GPS not found

I think you are talking about the other battery which is on the main board...?

I disconnected the gps & when I put the BV back together it was working.
only for some reason "audio on" audio off" just went into a loop by itself.

so took it apart again & re-assembled once more.
this fixed the loop... but gps once more not working (grrrr)

I'm still a bit reluctant to take out the battery, so I'll wait a bit
for a FW update...

btw; if you take out the battery, will it still show correct time in parking mode?

As it seems no one has done that it would seem no one will know You could try if you are game enough and let us know.

well camMO did it as he mentioned on the previous page... :)

Well he will be able to answer your question Shoot him a PM would be the logical way to find out

in the DR500, the shutdown power is handled by a capacitor. I did not remove the capacitor. the small watch size battery that I removed is what I understand a 'memory keep alive' battery just on the GPS chip. Removing this battery does not affect the shutdown feature at all.

cheers camMO. my gps is back to live, only it seems to be living in 2025 now, which seems to be another common problem...
maybe i'll just have to grow a pair & take out the battery l ike you did...
