Where did you mount the camera? Post your pictures

I have my GC up higher on the dots meaning i can see the display over the RVM.

But in general it dont matter much, but for stealth it is offcourse a little better, same if you are the kind of person that use the event button on the camera.

I have the CPL filter as well and agree it does make a difference - without it the image looks grainy (not video grainy as in low light etc..), it is the texture of the dash.

I also broke the top front cross bar at some point, but it doesn't seem to affect its function (i.e. lens doesn't move). I put mine on and off a lot while choosing a site for location, so probably "handled" it too much.

Received my free samples of vinyl and window film. One of the films is Limo Black, so lets some light through. The other is completely black - doesn't allow anything through, but is still a window film to be applied like window tint. Both of these samples are about A5 size, so probably big enough for what I need. However, I don't think they would be up to the job - I think sticking the camera to the film would be too heavy for it. So the other sample is the black vinyl, which I think is going to be better due to its "sticky" back. Unfortunately, the sample they sent of this is only about 3 inch square, so even if its suitable, isn't big enough, but then again, they are only samples, and where free.

So I'm going to apply the vinyl sample somewhere on the windscreen to see how it goes, then hopefully order some. It is £10 (GBP) for a 1 metre roll at 61cm width, which should be ample.

I wouldn't apply it to a window with tint on it. I'm sure it would be fine if you did, but after you remove it, like most stickers/emblems there will be an outline of residue and I'm not sure what it might or mighten do to tint.

Here's my Blackbox B40C (from Amazon) installed my pickup:

I aligned it with the rearview mirror to help conceal it. I hard wired it using an EDO 12V-microUSB transformer that I had left over from another project. Had to add the micro-to-mini USB adapter that you see. I used 12V switched power and ground in the plug on the back of the OnStar mirror; but fished the exposed ends through the headliner so the transformer and extra wire bundle were hidden above the headliner. Having a sunroof helped the access.
.Closeup1.jpg
Look closely and you'll see the plug on the back of the mirror where I connected power & ground.
I assume this can be done on any GM OnStar mirror but confirm the pins for pwr & grd; #13 and #8 on my truck
This shot is with the mirror detached; looks tidier when it's back on its bracket.

Driverview.jpg
Finished installation from the driver's view. The short length of wire seen towards the mirror ctr is the 12v
coming from the mirror and led up to the 12V-USB transformer above the headliner with the USB plug fed
back down to the cam. GPS cable is tucked into the headliner and routed to the module on top of the dash.
The cam screen and controls are plainly visible by twisting the mirror.

FrtView.jpg
View from the front; the gray adhesive betrays a very discrete installation.

My SG9665GC installed in my LZ Focus..

LU8G0Gfl.jpg

The GC is hardly noticeable from the front.

H48SGAwl.jpg

..You have to get up close to see it. CPL filter also installed.

F6L7ns9l.jpg

Couldn't install it closer to the mirror as my wipers leave a 'V' patch behind the mirror.

Nzm4bRUl.jpg

From the drivers seat only the LEDs are visible (photo is higher than seated position)

Hard wired into the fuse box in the passengers foot well. GPS module is tucked under the dash mat where it can't be seen.

I previously mounted my SGZC12RC on the passenger side (RHD car) adjacent to the rear view mirror, as the sensor housing made central mounting a bit awkward.

image.jpeg image.jpeg

I decided today to relocate it under the sensor housing, which is rounded, so it's possible to tuck the lens module under the housing, which acts as a background against which the lens "vanishes".

EDIT: Have now tested on the road, it seems to wobble about a little bit more than before but not enough to make any real difference. Added VLC snapshots of camera's footage before and after.

EDIT2: Found the post that I got my inspiration from, plus minor edits here and there.

I reinstalled my CF-100's rear camera today, got sick of the wire getting in the way all the time. Also, since my cars rear door opens in two different ways, it needed more loose wire when only opening the glass hatch than when opening the full door. Failure to feed more wire through before opening the glass would result in snagging the wire. It used to look like this:

And now:

That shiny thing is a bent money clip. I got the idea from here:
https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/mobius-mounting-solutions.2654/page-32#post-166676

I just popped it in a bench vice and whacked it with a rubber mallet until it was roughly the right shape. The clip is stainless steel, grips really tight, and cost me 99p with delivery! I've put some electrical tape on the top side of it that faces the car's bodyshell underneath the headliner, just to try reduce heat transfer to the clip (I noticed it was getting really hot with the car sat in the summer sun). The camera is stuck to the clip using Command Damage-Free Hanging strips (3M Dual-lock, basically).

Pretty invisible due to factory fitted privacy glass (also dirty window!), this is just about the only angle from which it can be seen:

This is my Street Guardian SG9665GC v2 purchased from Hiniko, mounted in my 2016 Audi S1.

I flipped the GPS module and mounted the GPS in the top left of the screen.

Hi,

Just saw this and as I drive one of those I would like to ask how difficult is it to route the cable at the ceiling down the post and under the glove compartement to get to the cigarette lighter.

Does it involve separating something or is it just pushing the cable into the edge of that parts.

Under the glove compartement what edges or channels do I have ?

Thanks and regards Rainer from Mexico

I think i have mentioned my rear camera several times, but allways linked to pics of the old way of dooing things.

So here is a couple of pics of the x camera and the metal bracket i have formed and screwed onto the x camera to space it out from the neodynium magnet on the frame of my rear hatch.

rearx1.jpg

rearx2.jpg

rearcamside_big_thumb.jpg

Works perfect only camera peek out in the window, and even at the very top of my rear window its still covered by the wiper.

Just unplug USB plug and ripp the thing off the magnet, only takes a couple of seconds, and no messing with the little SD card in the car.

Hello everyone - first time poster here :)

Here's my installation of the SG9665GC v2 with CPL into my BMW 5 Series (F10). The rear view mirror and housing is pretty large which makes it perfect to hide the SG behind.
You can't get it up tight against the mirror house, otherwise it is visible during video play back.
I'm pleased, it is fairly stealthy, and is hard wired around to the passenger side of the dash, with the GPS unit in place on the dash.

Video quality is great, and I've had no issue with it after a couple of weeks use. Auto switches on and starts recording upon ignition after short delay so I don't have to worry about.
I have the mic switched off so cannot comment on that. GPS works perfectly and tests show perfect mapping of journey alongside the video footage.
Old earphone socket into the AV out means I don't have to worry about the screen on delay either - thanks to this forum for that little tip!

Excellent service from Nikolai @ Niko Distribution. Real fast delivery through Amazon, a follow-up email from him with advice and links to help/advice topics, and he was responsive when I emailed him. Thanks to this forum for helping me find him, and helping choose this great dash cam.

Here's where I installed my SG9665GC in the rear of my Camaro. Inside and outside views. You can see the gps down in the bottom left of my back window in the first pic. I've since tucked it down more, under the black around the edge of the glass. Can't see it all now and still gets a full signal.

And the SGZC12RC in the front. Inside and outside views, along with with views from both drivers' and passengers' seats. I've had quite a few people in my car and none of them noticed the RC until I told them where it was. Also with and without the CPL. Really hard to get a good outside shot since the camera is so small.
