These appear to be far safer for in car use than other types. See: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/types_of_lithium_ion

Doing some research, it appears one of the centres of production for these types of power packs is Shenzhen and so, bearing in mind the CellLink is £189 and deemed pricey here, I wondered if @viofo or @jokiin have considered making a similar product in Shenzhen, or even just a simple LiFePO4 6000-12000 mAh power pack with no fancy CellLink features?

The best priced (and only?) one I can find here is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/B00H6ZNTOG
As here: http://www.colorfly.eu/DEBOCH X6000/index.html

I do have contacts in the battery industry that could do something like this for us but not something I've considered doing, too many other projects on the go at the moment

Something like a BDP with a little extra bells and whistles on, working like a normal BDP but then having a extra port ( USB ) you could connect a power bank to and have that take over the supply of power to the cameras when the car is turned off.

I do like modular things you can expand on as you like, most likely why i have been messing with computers for so many years.

You mean the power bank takes over only when the BDP cuts the car's battery power, if too low?

That would be ideal, but you could just do without BDP all together and then just hand over powering of cameras to power bank when key off, and then just have the power bank supply power in what even time frame it can do that before it shut down, and then be charged again when you key on the car ( a good strong charge would be good, something like 2 amps should be fine i think )

Lukas have something like this.
http://lukashd.com/dashcam/product_info/power_570.html

That lukas thing charge with 5 amps if on cigarette socket and a whopping 7 amps if hardwired, thats pretty cool if you are mostly driving short trips in the week ( job and shopping )
But off course if you have a 1 hour drive to and from work every day then you dont need to charge that hard ( 5 - 7 amps are not really that hard for most lipo /lifepo, depending on battery size its no more than a 1C charge rate, and my RC batteries are like 5 C or 10 C.

So if i charge a 5000 mah lipo of mine with 5 amps thats just a 1 C charge rate, so if its a 5 C battery i could charge it with 25 amps and be done with charging really fast.

But that Lukas a all integrated unit, i would like to see a little smart device that can act as a BDP on its own, or if you plug in a USB power bank act like a charger for it and PSU for the cameras while driving, and then control the power hand over when you key off.

But it might be a good idea to have the unit initiate a USB power bank first, and then when its done for hand over to regular powering off car battery and with BDP so it off course dont discharge car battery too much.
This way you always use the power bank and only rely on car battery for those really long periods of stand by.
