Double-beep of death?

I was using the supplied usb cable from the cars usb out ( mercedes ) into the GPS input - was working fine for 6 weeks or so.
I tried using the power into the unit itself but no difference.

So your using the cars USB port and not the supplied USB adapter (cigarette port adapter)? If so, I would try using the supplied USB power adapter.

yeah most OEM USB ports are rated at 0.5 amps (and often deliver less, which is why they charge smartphones so slowly, if at all), but the viofo adapter supplies over 1A of current. the OE port might have been giving JUST enough current to operate the camera, depending on the temperature, but now that it's colder, the cam may need more power to start up and operate.
