Hello guys,

I never used any action camera before and I'm not a professional vlogger/adventurer or something like that.
I'm just an ordinary guy that rides a moto and likes to go surfing couple times a week that wants to record some of those activities plus having a nice camera for weekend trips and stuff like that (pretty softcore).

I've been told that Xiaomi Yi 4k is the best bet (specs and $$$ wise), I like the looks of it and it's photos/videos quality seem awesome.
I'm pretty motivated into buying it.
The thing is that I ride a moto and I keep seeing this forums and youtube comments and people keep saying that Xiaomi's Yi microphone just sucks and it's not appropriated for moto riders.

What you guys think, is this true? If so, is it a minor issue or a major one? Should I buy a GoPro instead or the price keeps the Xiaomi the best bet even with sound issues?

Any comment, any advice will be awesome, ty!

I have no experience with the yi 4k, but do you drive and vlog ? if so you off course need sound, but otherwise who need the sound of a motor and wind thru-out a video.

Other cheaper cameras like GIT2 and SJcam SJ6 legend and SJ7 star ( 4K ) support a external wired microphone if sound is important to you.
Maybe the GIT3 will be something for you too, its a 2 channel camera ( action/dash ) but the final specs on it are still a little in the dark, but it could be a interesting setup for you too.
( not sure if it too will support a wired microphone )

I think the Garmin virb 30 ultra can be paired with a blue tooth microphone if you already have that in your helmet, but thats also a expensive camera like the grpro 5.

You could also wait and have a go at the yi 4k+, its the same as its older brother but can do 4K/60 FPS for more smooth video, and it should be able to do image stabilization on 4 K footage which other 4K cameras cant do yet.
It should even come in a little cheaper than Garmin or goprt top products.

But it is not out on the market yet, but i think it will be there for the summer rides on the bike.

O and welcome to the forum.

Ty for your answer mate.

I'm not a vlogger but moto riders know that sound is actually really important haha, the thing is... the Yi 4k has microphone and captures sound, but is it enough for a moto?

I'm gonna be a pretty softcore user that's why I think spending so much money on a gopro would be.... a waste?

Thank you for the extra information on your post really appreciate any info on the matter since I'm far from being an expert.

If I actually buy a Yi 4k I must buy some acessories right? Like a waterproof case and a helmet mount, are those kinds of acessories easily available and affordable?

:)
