Those 2 first ones was a whole lot of WTF going on

Up here they started to decommission the wire barriers in favor of steel ones about a decade ago

About 15 years ago there were very few median barriers here and there were many cross-over fatalities, so the State began installing cable barriers "temporarily until we can complete the planned concrete ones". A few crashes happen and they seem to work, then an 18 wheeler plows through one locally as if it weren't there killing some people and crashing many cars. A week later after repairs had been made a car went through the exact same spot and with fatalities again. The public outcry was massive (as should be) then the State DOT spokesperson tells us "These barriers are not designed to stop trucks, only cars, and that even then they are only about 80% effective". We've got 10 more miles of concrete barriers since then (or so they say if you can trust them) and even where the entire roadway is rebuilt all we get is more cable barriers and more deaths. Plus the cables have to be replaced on a schedule so now there's no money for decent safe effective barriers and there never will be :(

I've got something other than "Thanks" to say to the creep who invented cable barriers as well as a deep desire to do some unmentionable nasty things to them with the old rusted cables I helped pay for
