Street Guardian SG9665GC v2 Dashcam - Review + Install

Thank you again @harsh. I live in Indore, MP where temperatures range in the middle (Madhya!). I agree that I should go for a capacitor based camera. I also want to have the parking mode, if possible. What is your opinion about Vantrue N1. I was impressed by its build quality (as described in a review). But GC (Street Guardian) always looked the best option (for everyone) to me, only much costlier!.

I shall now look for deals on GC. How can I get to contact @Street Guardian? If you come across any, please let me know. Also tell me which memory card do you use, as I have seen various issues discussed in threads on this forums.

Thanx once again.

Have no experience with the N1 but from the features and specifications listed, parking mode is not buffered. If you're looking for regular motion-detect parking mode, many cams do that with varying levels of reliability. The build quality does look nice but I'd skip the N1 due to the battery and its conspicuous point & shoot camera design.

For any parking mode, you'll also need a hardwire kit with battery discharge prevention.

SG supplies Transcend 400X cards with their cameras, they work well. I've switched to these for my other cameras too, no issues so far.

You can contact @Street Guardian USA like this or use the PM feature.

Youtube's encoding has introduced a lot of macro blocking in the videos below. Download the linked RAW files to view the original quality.

You will find few shops open here at that time, when shops are allowed to be open is also regulated by our gooberment, though the area have seen some improvement lately, you just cant keep your shop open as you please.

I think its BS and over regulating, people should be able to have their shop open when they bloody well please.
So thats just one of many things i would change is i became "El Presidente" here :D

It's regulated here too - most shops shut by 10 - 10:30 PM, restaurants are allowed to remain open till midnight, 1 AM at some locations. Delhi's nightlife hours took a serious hit back in the nineties due to a horrific incident and it's never been the same since.

For late night snacking, groceries and other basic stuff we do have a few places open till 4 - 5 AM.

I'd purchased the SG9665GC V2 last year after coming across mostly positive reviews here on DCT, vouching for especially the product's reliability. Glad to report that the camera's video quality and consistent performance has definitely lived up to the hype, no file corruptions or missed recordings till date. :)

Though not recommended, I've had the SG9665GC recording while parked for approximately two hours on multiple occasions, a few of those times under direct sun with temperatures ranging from 35° - 48° C. Reviewed footage never suffered from any blurriness or focus shifts due to the heat. :)

After little over a year in use, a couple of annoyances do come to mind -

The SD card slot can be a pain to deal with, especially for a day or two after one's clipped their fingernails.

A droopy lens housing that doesn't stay put between the preset notches. If I set it one click up there's negligible dash in the FOV and if set one click down, the lens droops to the lowest point of the click within a minute or so and then there's too much dash in the FOV.

And that lone hot pixel. Doesn't really bother me as much (as it used to) but still good to know that the next firmware will make it disappear.

All in all I'm happy that I forked out a little more than what I was initially willing to spend. Stability has been rock solid and received prompt support when I needed it. Don't think one could ask for more!

Thank you!

thanks for the feedback, you will see some of the things mentioned addressed in our next version, pretty much things are always being reviewed and adjusted where we can find areas that can be improved, and there's always room for improvement with any product

Same for me - resolved the issue by setting the lens where I wanted it (between clicks) then put a piece of cellophane tape over one of the adjustment knobs to hold it in that position. No more droop now. (y)

You mean the DC and other future releases or a V4? The gear mechanism pivoting the lens should be easily upgradable to a tighter version that stays exactly where set. I feel the distance between the current preset clicks is too wide, should be shorter and firm.
