A118 (B40) Stuck on startup splash screen

I was using the camera find for a couple of months when all of a sudden it got stuck on the splash screen either 'Welcome" or "VIOFO" when turning on.

I contacted the seller (foxoffer1 on eBay) - I don't know if they are the manufacturer's or just a reseller, and they just keep sending me new firmware, which doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've tried letting the battery completely die, reformatting the card, using a different card, pressing the reset button on the side, and putting the latest firmware on the card.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? How did you get it fixed?

I don't know if it's worth paying the $20 to ship it back to China for a replacement, when that's a 1/4 of the cost of the camera. I think if I can't get it working, I might just buy one from Aus.

does it still do the same with no memory card in the camera?

assuming it does you can narrow it down to being a hardware fault

Yep, it still gets stuck, even when the memory card is removed
