quick question before I buy

Hey all,
I just want to know if I purchase a dashcam, will it always need to be plugged into my lighter? I'm wondering if I'm going to have to deal with the wire running the up middle of my windshield all the time? Are there any models that can hold a charge and don't need to be plugged in at all times, or are there other workarounds?

Most dash cams come with a 3-4 metre cable, doesn't need to dangle in view, you can tuck it into the headliner and behind the A-pillars.

Umm, you're going to have to dumb that down for me a bit. Not familiar with the lingo. Any pictures that show what you're saying?
