Git2 Photos are appauling :(

I finally got around to using my git2 whilst on holiday and whilst the videos are perfect, the pictures are either 90% white in bright light or 90% black in dark... Any ideas what is wrong? I am on v1. 4 and hoping it doesn't require a firmware update as currently travelling.
 
Could you place some examples here?
Usually auto settings work fine. Make sure you are making settings in photo mode.
 
Thanks for the reply, I managed to load the new firmware by using my phone. V1. 6 works perfectly and the images are no longer distorted.
