which settings for always on

I have installed my first dashcam (a 0826) a few weeks ago and it has a continuous 5V connection. I turn it on and off everytime I use the car, but I am afraid I will forgot to turn it of one day and it will drain my battery. I did it once, and after 3 days, the car started fine, so it's not a big issue, but what settings are best for this. I also can't find the power consumption of the camera anywhere. I have it now on "record when movement is detected" but still have a few hundred movies with a non moving garage door.
