Here today a 55 year old guy on a motorcycle did the same, drifted wide in a turn due to high speed and collided with a oncoming car, needless to day the guy will not become older.

it's called target fixation, they see something coming and actually ride into it due to looking at it, very common thing to happen

Looks like he has done it before a few times! - he knew when to give up instead of spinning or rolling the car, unless he had stability control that knew when to give up but that would have probably hit the camera car.
