Having been stung with the Pruveeo F5 I don't want to get stung again. I like the wedge design and having read this forum decided on the 118c over the 119 due to its rear USB port.

Is this a proper unit and good buy?

Hi, thanks
Copy of what? I thought the Street Guardian was also a copy...just a better one.
It uses the same equipment so will be the same as the one recommended in the forum?
There's also this one. It's a bit more but says it has GPS! Which tbh I don't want as don't want my speed recorded as well....lol
VIOFO A118C-2 (2017 Version) 1080P Full HD Car Dash Camera, Novatek 96650 + Aptina AR0330, G-sensor Motion-Detection - With GPS https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/B06W9HD78W
Same again or better?

no, we just use the same tooling of the main housing and a couple of other components, majority of ours is changed

in the generic versions the Viofo A118C is the original hardware spec version, the A118C2 is an improved version of that with a better quality lens assembly than the base model and is also CPL compatible, either of these are a good choice if you're looking for value for money

there used to be other small brands that used the same reference hardware that Viofo used but they changed to a cheaper version, the non branded and other branded ones that run the B40 firmware have a copy PCB from a different supplier and use lower grade components, yes it has the same processor as an A118 and same CMOS sensor but the rest is not the same spec, firmware is more basic and if you try loading Viofo firmware on the knockoff version they have issues, the hardware is not capable

Arguably I already have, and am returning, a sort of copy but with WIFI. It's dreadful and don't want to waste my time again...Pruveeo F5 Car Dash Cam with WiFi, Discreet Design Dash Camera for Cars with Night Vision https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/B01MG6OAJN
So to clarify the Viofo one I posted is the original as reviewed and the I-Tentik is an inferior copy? And yours is a stripped out and improved version of the Viofo. Unfortunately yours is nearly four time the price in the UK.

Any others I should consider on this price range? Bearing in mind I'm trying to achieve a discreet install

Many thanks

And another one...

Viofo is the original NT96650 + AR0330 version (we use NT96655 + IMX322), the others you see that look the same use lower spec hardware than what you will find in the Viofo version, by hardware I don't mean the processor and sensor but rather the rest of the components used are of lower quality, any product is a sum of its parts and only as good as the weakest link, it's a cost down version that does not come from the original manufacturer

Bang for buck the Viofo is a good choice for what you want, the A118C2 does have a better lens assembly than the A118C and worth the bit extra if that's still within your budget

Just about to buy and came across the Shadow 2s which is branded in this country as the Halo C1
Any good in comparison

And anybody got fears of a dash cam that has permanently wifi in their car?

Jokiin, thanks for help today I ordered the Viofo. Checked and they update firmware regularly
