Does anyone make a home security camera that works like a dash cam in that it records a continuous loop to an SD card? It seems like this would simplify things. It could be self contained with the exception of a USB power supply. The card could be large enough to make a 24 hour loop.

There are numerous cameras that will do what you want. Most are wireless IP cameras that record to the cloud and can be viewed on a smart phone or tablet but many of these cameras also have the ability to record to an SD memory card or other attached storage devices. Often the same chipsets we see in dash cams are used in these wireless IP cameras.

I found a D-Link security that Best Buy sells which may work as a dash cam. The res is 1280x720 but it allows custom framerate and video quality and records to microSD. It can also record over wireless. http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DCS-936L

I bought the D-Link and I'm just using it for outside my apartment. The image quality is pretty bad, regardless of which bit rate you select and it also has no battery so if it loses power, the last file gets lost. No way it would work for a vehicle
