One bar may not be enough. Take it somewhere where there are no obstructions around. It's one time setup.

The camera needs to get GPS to finish initial setup. Set it up outside and it should be no problem.

I don't like the new x7 parking and incident mode either but I understand why they changed it (limiting data for cloud upload) I wish they kept the old behavior and let users throttle data as necessary.

Well, you will definitely need a new(ish) phone for all of that.

The camera can be fully configured without a phone.

The LTE or 5G subscription will be always there. There is no way around it. Maybe some low bandwidth gadgets could include it for a limited time, but not something like a camera which produces a lot of data.

Haha. I feel like Garmin is still not all in on Dash Cams. It still feels like a side project.

Some kind of remote viewing is possible with Dash Cam Live, but I am not sure if it's while in parking mode only. Somebody send me the camera and I will verify it :)

Other than factory reset, not much you can do. Maybe try eBay?

Not super long, but all of my Garmins (DC55,56,57,Mini 2) operate daily without problems.

For incidents, DC 57 will upload footage to the cloud and you have 24 hours for a free tier to retrieve it. It does require Wi-Fi connection though. For me that's not a problem since my car has LTE to Wi-Fi bridge. If you don't have this option, Garmin Dash Cam™ Live may be an option.

Well it's 160MB per minute, so depending on how long your trips are, it will add up.

I doubt you'll find any camera (or any other device) that will send gigabytes of data fast over Wi-Fi. Maybe Wi-Fi 6 but even that would take a few minutes...
