    Mobius heat tolerance

Unfortunately that heatsink came from an electronics surplus store. However, if you search Google for "IC Chip Heatsink" you'll get lots of hits...

Playing with the 808 #16 Camera

I know that this thread is getting old, but I encountered something interesting with the camera... I went to record a segment at our trains and the camera failed completely, even with external power connected. After three days of being pissed off about a new camera failure, I looked into it...

    SamDisk Cards Suck

Anything is possible, but I purchased them from major stores like Best-buy and Office Depot.

    Write protection on file

I always carry a second backup card in the event something big happens. As soon as I stop, I swap cards.

    SamDisk Cards Suck

RE: PS: Bob, what model Sandisk cards were you using? I think mine are all Ultra's. I also use one in my Sony camera and it's been fine. Mine were SanDisk Ultra.

    SamDisk Cards Suck

The failures were rather odd, the Mobius saw a problem and quit working with that card. I haven't looked into this, but guess that there's a block that went bad. At the time of the failure, I had the battery in the Mobius. After the failure, I upgraded to a Kingston Card and got around to...

    Mobius ActionCam Wishlist 2015

As the lighting is less, we know that the shutter speed must be longer. It would be an interesting and useful option to allow the user to select to slowest shutter speed allowed. For example: ( ) 1/30. ( ) 1/60. ( ) 1/120. In this case the 1/30 allows for better low light performance, but...

    Next version of Mobius?

The Canon camera does show what is possible. Remember if you wanted a video camera that could shoot 1080 at 30P back in 2000, it would cost a lot more than $20,000. :)

    Next version of Mobius?

By the way Canon introduced a full frame 1920x1080 video camera with an impressive ISO of 4,560,000. Each pixel on the sensor is massive compared to other cameras. The cost takes it way way out of the dashcam field, $19,999. However the camera does show how a larger sensor with larger pixels...

    Next version of Mobius?

Dashmellow, One very important point, 15FPS does NOT mean that the shutter speed will be 1/15 or a second or 1/30 of a second. The diagram you showed is very misleading. The lenses we use have a fixed aperture, thus the only way to limit the light and avoid overexposure is through a shorter...

    Next version of Mobius?

DennisOlof, I also dream of a dashcam with the larger sensors like M4/3 or even APS-C. (If I'm going to dream, dream big!!!) I'm sure the cost will be high, but the low light performance should be amazing.

    SamDisk Cards Suck

OK, sorry it was a typo on my part. It's SanDisk, but my brain wants to say, "SamDisk". It's like when a I hear a song in another language, I keep hearing some English words.

what point of mobius make you feel happy the most ?

I'm really happy when someone does something so bonehead stupid and I remember I have it on video !!!! ;) I can't compare to those cameras because I didn't test them, but the Mobius does the job and is small enough for me to hide under a baseball cap when I'm parked.

    Next version of Mobius?

30P vs 60P is a resolution of time. If I look at the footage of accident videos posted on YouTube, you can drop the frame rate down to 15P and still get a clear idea of what happened. Now if a car flipped over, 60P or better yet 120P would give a really cool slow motion of it happening...

    SamDisk Cards Suck

I'm sure Isoprop is going to say, "I told you so..." (humor intended), but I just had to get it off my chest. I had a SamDisk card fail after 2 years use in my dashcam, but I never expected that a second card would fail after 1 year's use in my smart phone. My video camera and still camera...

Do we really need 60P on a dash cam?

I would be shocked if they didn't take advantage of the extra compression possible with 60P. That would have to be one lazy %^&%& programmer. :D

    Next version of Mobius?

Someday I'd love to see a 4K dashcam. I know it won't be the next version of the Mobius, but I can always dream that the version AFTER the next version would be it. The only problem with the higher resolution is that the image sensor has to be a bit larger to make up for the extra sharpness...

Do we really need 60P on a dash cam?

Things get a bit messy with video compression with 60P vs 30P. It all depends on how it's compressed. In terms of raw data, yes 60P is double the data of 30P, but because at 60P we have lots more frames that are close differences between each frame we can have more "b" and "p" frames that...

Playing with the 808 #16 Camera

I'm using the mSetup.exe to set the parameters. It's odd, because the camera seems to behave at times, then out of nowhere it selects some higher data rate. I have no idea why. With 1280x720, using a lower frame rate like 15FPS and 20FPS seems to lower the data rate. The worse case for 15FPS...

Do we really need 60P on a dash cam?

When you are traveling at 60MPH (96.56kPH), a car moves a distance of 88 feet (26.82 meters) in one second. Now if we look at 1/30 of a second, 88 feet /30 = 2.93 feet (26.82 meters / 30 = 0.894M). Now one can make a case that the car could be coming at you resulting in a total of 60MPH+60MPH...
