Why not just use aluminium foil. Of course only if you have your cam hidden and are using a cable extension for the lens.

I had this cam as well, but sent it back, as the quality was not satisfying. The GT300W is much better in all aspects.

Maybe check a different USB cable to charge it in the car. A USB cable has usually 4 pins, of which 2 are used for data and 2 for power. So I assume that there could be the problem.
