    Screen recording apps

For Android, DU Recorder is the best I have found. For Windows PCs, VSDC is free and has a great screen recorded that I use almost daily.

My first dash cam. But i require front/rear/side

I've used 3 separate cameras to get 3 separate recordings before.

    Why so many files?

Almost all dash cams use loop recording. Your camera starts a new file every 5 minutes. This guarantees that it is easy to delete the oldest file to write a new one. It also help limit the damage / data loss from file corruption. If one file is corrupted, you may still have what led up to an...

Dash Cam used only for when vehicle is in motion

Tell me about the forklifts. Are the powered by natural gas engines? Do they charge a 12V started battery when they are running like most cars do?

No lithium batteries, No supercapacitors: No problem

    1. A 5V regulator will get hot as it burns off (14-5)/14 = 9/14 of the power. A DC/DC converter is much better. They are $1-$3 on Ebay. 2. The battery gives the dash cam time to save the file when power is cut. Modern video CODECs do not create readable files if power is suddenly cut. They...

How to handle an accident - My take

One more thing, lock your (still running) dash cam(s) in your car, and document if/when the other guy trys to get to them.

How to handle an accident - My take

I disagree. You will never hear back as the investigators do not want to mess with another possible witness. I disagree. Turning off the dash cam is a good way to miss a car hitting a parked (wrecked or witness) vehicle, or to miss the other driver throwing a punch.

The person I am suing lawyer wants all past months worth of video

Why not? 1. It takes a lot of time, and costs a lot of money. 2. It's stressful. 3. Lawyers will pound on something that is absolutely innocent and the judge may go with the liar (that's an alternate spelling of lawyer.) The lawyer (liar) made a silly demand. Either ignore it or make a silly...

The person I am suing lawyer wants all past months worth of video

If I understand correctly, he wants your videos for the month of the wreck? He's messing with you to stress you out. The correct response is that you have not kept those videos. Your dash cam records over the old videos in a loop, and you only kept the relevant videos. Legally he can not demand...

    EBAY - Dual Lens Dashcam

I've used them for years. They are the cheapest eBay dual-lens dash cams that I have found to be reasonably reliable. You will get 2 ~VGA quality images on a single .AVI file. It uses uSD cards up to 32GB. The device will often lose the settings and the time/date when unplugged, so don't plan...

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

I want a camera that switches from driving (continuous recording) mode to parking (motion detection and/or bump detection) mode automatically. I'm not sure such a camera exists yet.

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR EXCELLENT REPLIES, AND I WILL TRY SOME OF THE SUGGESTIONS. Also, does anyone think a tariff on Chinese products will put a damper on our dash cams? I support President Elect Trump, but am concerned about my electronics toys coming into the country. If I just...

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

When 1080p dash cams are $10 on ebay and $20 at WalMart, the low end has been covered. The problem is one of education. Those who educate the public want the data, so they push cell-phone-equipped black boxes that you can not remove. Those who educate the public hate the idea of us controlling...

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

Very true. That is one of the first things I tell someone when I explain dash cams to them. I like to keep 2 dual-camera modules running, and I like to keep a third one (of everything: power adapter, power splitter, camera, memory card, and mount) in my vehicle. When I start my vehicle, I plug...

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

I never thought of that. For those of us driving beat up old pickups, 13.6V means the engine is running, and 12.0V means the engine is stopped. We could use a cutoff of 12.8V as a convenient trigger.

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

    > Here are 2 counter-examples: 1. There were some crooks going around apartment parking lots, easing up behind people who were backing out in cars. They would position their very low hood behind the other person's car and deliberately get hit so they could sue and get a settlement from the...

I'm used to cheap dash cams; sell me a "good" one

About me: I've been using cheap dash cams for years now. Here's a link to where a $30 (in 2010) dash cam saved my drivers license (and therefore my job) as the other guy lied about the wreck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgECz5oEUn8 I have used x8000 cameras: I have used dual lens 2.0"...
