    No U-Turn Skills

Note: Zoomed and no audio. Is this considered urban 4-wheeling? For clarification, u-turns are legal at the intersection and there is more-than-ample space to perform a "normal" u-turn, even with an SUV.

A few vids from the weekend

Don't get me started on drivers who go the wrong way in parking lot aisles. Better yet, on those same one-way aisles when people pull all the way forward when parking in the diagonal spaces so that they're facing the wrong way. That behavior has always befuddled me.

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

If my current cam ever fails, I'll definitely get a "2 channel" camera. I had another clip which I was going to share where a car in front of me completely ignores the fact we were in a Right Turn Only lane and goes straight through an intersection (luckily no one was in the left lane), but it...

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

(No Audio) In keeping with the subject theme, this just happened a little while ago as a Tesla driver passes me illegally, only to get stuck at the next light. Mind you, I freely admit that I was over the speed limit already at the start of this clip - it's a 25 mph zone - and another...

    Karma?

(No Audio) Approaching an accident scene where the two right lanes are closed. You'll see a car passing on the shoulder and you'll see it again a bit later with a CHP (California Highway Patrol) officer speaking to the driver. I muted the audio, but it was rather funny that "Lonesome Loser"...

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

The exact same spot on the freeway from my last clip bears fruit yet again. This time in addition to the construction, there's also an accident up ahead that causes the backup. I know it's hard to see because it's dark, but in the first clip, the car from the right is entering the onramp but...

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

Thanks. I have 442 in my personalized plate, too, as well as "GO FOR BROKE" on my license plate frame.

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

Speaking of poor merging skills or, more likely, simply in a hurry and not caring about anyone else, here's what happened early this morning as I was driving home from work. Note, this is also in a construction zone. As usual, there is no audio.

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

Sorry if the darkness makes it look white, but the solid and broken lines are yellow. Yes, you use that center lane to make a left turn into your driveway. Those center lanes are very common so that you can wait to make your left turn without impeding traffic.

Drivers really wanted to go around me.

(No Audio) This vid has 2 clips from a couple nights ago. In these instances, I wish I had a rear-facing camera as it would show that neither driver had been tailgating me nor was I obstructing either of them by going slow. The start of the first part was chosen to illustrate how long I had...

    Could've ended badly.

(No audio) I almost posted this in old4570's "Stupid truck drivers!" thread because it's sort of related, but thought it might be rude. The zoomed-in part is not additional footage, so this is in real time to illustrate how long the light was red. I should point out that this particular...

    On your right!

^^ Some of the side streets around here have "islands" or concrete bumps to try to dissuade drivers from cutting the corner, but quite few end up being removed after a short period. I've just assumed they were removed because they were deemed to be even more of a hazard, particularly at night...

    On your right!

Admittedly, that whole area doesn't have the greatest layout. There are a cluster of 3 sets of signals in a relatively small stretch in what can be an extremely congested area and the timing gets messed up quite often, especially at night. The fairly close proximity to that eyesore Apple Park...

    On your right!

Just a standard left turn as the 3rd car in line and then this happens. When I'm the lead car, I'm usually good about looking both ways, but I sure wasn't expecting this as the 3rd car. I was so surprised, I neither honked my horn nor touched my brake. The "funny" thing is that...

    Two (fairly) close calls.

Here's another close call. As you can probably tell by the timestamp, this happened earlier today as I was on my way to work. If you want, you can jump straight to the ~20 second mark to get the "main course" of the clip. I included the lead up because I wanted to show that I was not...

    Two (fairly) close calls.

I will add that the intersections involved are quite close in proximity and, therefore, in the same city. The road engineering department in this particular city is rather slow (to put it nicely) in addressing signal timing and road striping issues. The intersection in the 2nd clip could...

    Two (fairly) close calls.

Both from this week on my way home from work. Hopefully, my addition of notes in the videos doesn't confuse or detract. With this first one, maybe because it's at night, the closeness of our cars seems more dramatic than it actually was, at least from my perspective when it happened. For...

Bicyclist can't interrupt ride for red light.

I bet you're thinking it'll be a nylon/lycra kit wearing cyclist, but you'd be incorrect in this case. My original video had a 2nd part because about 40 mins after this clip was taken, while I was driving my other car, I saw the same guy do the same thing at another intersection going the...

Why'd the possum cross the road?

It's a very short and grainy (dark & zoomed in) clip. Possums, raccoons, and skunks, are commonly seen on our work campus by those of us that work at night. I've even spotted a coyote. I had to give this critter credit for using the actual crosswalk. I gave it a pass for not using the...

    Cyclist from out of nowhere.

I forgot to post this from 6 months ago. I'm not sure what the cyclist was thinking. Just by coincidence, although it's out of view, there's a hospital directly to the right of where we were. The cyclist got up right away, though his bike was un-rideable.
