    Sample video extreme dynamic backlight

I forgot to say that I always have a CPL filter attached, I think it works ok also when driving at night so I never take it off. Most of the white lines coming from the sun are caused by dirt on the windscreen from the wipers in this case, I saw them too while I was driving into the sun. Very...

    Sample video extreme dynamic backlight

Hi! Just would like to get your impressions on a recent recording with the latest firmware (or close to the latest). Got to say I was very satisfied with how the unit tried to maintain a good contrast and image quality on the road despite the extreme variations in the sky as you see in the...

Is my cigarette lighter socket permanently live or not?

It can be quite tricky to find a fuse under the glove compartment that only is powered when the engine is on. Depends on the car of course but most systems are activated through Canbus and similar systems. In my Volvo S80 -07 the only fuse I could find in that box that only is powered when the...

Are people using the EVA Foam Pads for VIOFO A119, and if so have they helped?

I have the v.1 version with the GPS mount, had some problems initially with spontaneous restarts due to lost contact with the GPS unit. I then cleaned the contacts thoroughly with CRC oxide clean - lubricated and protected with CRC 2-26 - added the EVO foam (which also took care of some slight...

FCWS and LDWS - do they even work?

Yes, I saw these functions but no, I never even tried. Because I have zero faith that it could contribute anything whatsoever, far too complex task for a generic stand alone gadget. For sure, I've driven BMW series 7 vehicles with a good implementation of those ideas, a vibration in the...

    $0.05 lens hood for A119

I have difficulties seeing how it is possible to obtain a "hood" shielding stray light when you have a lens of like 160 degrees, extremely wide angle. Personally I have never seen the need of such "hoods", the CPL filter works really well to give an excellent picture clarity - without any...

    WHERE IS VIOFO

Great, I really appreciate the continuous effort you put into this - IMO - excellent product, great additions of functionality in new firmware versions! Also bought the CPL filter and I think it is great when properly aligned. Keep up the good work!

What 128gb SD cards work best?

That is a good technical argument. A 128 GB card compared to a 32 GB card would be updated 1/4th as often, technically extending lifetime by 400%, all parameters equal. Of course I also realize some people would like to record longer sessions than 3 hours which is what you get from a 32 GB card...

    Cars with purple windscreens...

I've seen quite a lot of them here in Europe, mainly relatively modern French mainstream cars like Citroen, Renault and such. Also other brands but not very common. Apparently they have windscreens that are supposed to attenuate IR radiation into the car and decrease AC needs. I say "purple"...

What 128gb SD cards work best?

Sorry but I'm not sure I understand... what is the purpose of having anything larger than, say, 32 GB on a dashcam? In a A119 it is sufficient for recording almost 3h continuously at 1440p / 30fps. If something happens you press the "emergency" button and the particular clip (and possibly also...

    Reading Plates - New User

Intersting idea, you would get two almost identical frames to stack for increased resolution. But I think few people would like to have more than one camera facing front, possibly one rear camera. I'd like to return to the image stacking approach. Dashmellow talked about how it is used in...

    Reading Plates - New User

On the stacking approach, I was more thinking in line with using a small set of decent images of the license plate from different frames showing the license plate in different angles and at different absolute resolutions, degree of motion blur, contrast. Then stretching - resizing - tilting each...

    Reading Plates - New User

It should be possible to utilize the fact that a dashcam captures 30 or 60 frames per second. Even if a single frame is too blurry in itself, overlaying several frames could reveal the plate number. Of course such a software must be able to cope with varying sizes and angles of the registration...

    A119 Keeps Restarting

IMHO, the key issue with A119v1 & its GPS module is to ensure the contact pins in the GPS module moves completely unrestricted of friction. If they stick/bond in any way, you will have a problem with intermittent contact down the road. Without knowing for sure, I have a feeling this is the most...

    A119 Keeps Restarting

The remedy I used did not involve disassembling the camera. I describe the procedure in detail eight posts above in this thread, it involves only the use of an oxide cleaning agent (like CRC Oxide Clean), some careful exercising of the springed contact pins in the GPS unit to make them smoother...

    A119 Keeps Restarting

I travelled 900 km / 560 miles this weekend, still no problems whatsoever. So I think it is a good idea to simply clean & lubricate the GPS units' pins and also all other contacts like the micro SD card's gold strips, as described above. No problems even on extremely bumpy roads.

Why you must Reset Default Settings after an Update

Great advice! Never thought of that before but it is very logical as you explain.

I'm very impressed with Viofo's way of working with customers to improve the product further

Absolutely it is a distributed team effort involving competent retailers such as yourself, taking on responsibility and genuine support for the products you offer to customers. One difficulty Viofo has is that the product also have so many retailers located in China mainland for instance and...

Driving in the night with A119 + CPL

Yes I don't think it is so bad considering the conditions. I find it good enough for the purpose of a dashcam even if it is very hard to see registration plates at these long exposure times you may get at night... and especially with the CPL filter which in itself incurs a light penalty of...

How does the A119 emergency lock function work?

Reflections can be more or less manageable depending on the slope of the windshield, also suspecting anti-sun treatments may have an impact (some windshields from especially french car makers seem to have a purple tint when observed through polarized glasses like the CPL attachment we put on...
