Update:
My review of the 4K Omni
Click on the blurred image to jump to the review. I made it a spoiler so as not to ruin the page layout here.

70mai has started shipping the latest dashcam from their stables.

The 4K Omni 2 channel rotating head dash cam.
IMG_0092.webp

The unit looks similar to the Omni x200 with some huge improvement.

4K video using the Sony imx678 sensor while the x200 uses the OS02K10 a 1080p sensor. 70mai have added a rear camera 1080p using a new sensor to dashcamtalk the Sony imx662 2.4mp 1080p sensor

Capacitors replace the battery now.
Many will celebrate this direction.

Micro SD memory up to 512GB no more internal memory storage.

Smarter ADAS upgrade.

Pre release manual..

A lot of changes with this new model, had a look on Baidu and there's some detailed breakdowns of the new model and tech inside it.

The IMX662 would be the RC14 module that they would be using, while not groundbreaking it's head and shoulders above what other wired cabling for rear camera modules they've used before.

ADAS matches what new cars on sale have with AEB features, so that's nice to see for those that have older vehicles. The new battery voltage monitoring via the 4G hardware kit is a nice thing to have.

Reading through the product brief, its hard to see what the X800 doesn't have. Looks to be a very solid camera and looking forward to testing it.

I don't know how they have managed to fit everything in!
And being a camera of minimal surface area, it might not be good for hot climates - needs some testing...

That is a very good sensor for a rear camera, especially in the dark away from street lights.

It was smarter people tracking that was needed, the X200 never lived up to the promises...

Is there still a red and white version? The image shows boring black!

Look like same old same old, but there is dynamite under that hood VS the old Omni.
I like the RC14 camera i have been testing lately on the A 810, it is indeed something else VS the other cameras. 1080 is small and larger would for sure be better for the Americans, but it work fine on Euro plates + there is 2 of them.

Initially i was not too happy with the build in memory of the first omni, but i did get used to it in the end, but i do appreciate they have opted for the conventional micro SD card approach.

Even if i live in a red & white flag country, i would prefer the more stealthy version.

There is a chance for a huge step up here, both on image but also in the smarts department.

I'm sure we'll see how it goes in hot climates, has heat dissipation vents but won't know the full reality for a little while.

@kamkar has had experience with the same rear camera, I think this is the first that it's been in a retail model so good to see Starvis 2 finally on the rear modules.

China has red and white, wonder if global will get that

On paper 1080p doesn't seem like enough compared to 2k, but the RC units are designed to be low cost units for rear-view mirror / 2-channel cameras (on a budget). So while not the imx675, I'm still happy to see it over potato solutions of yesteryear.

It will read the plate of the car behind you when you get rear ended at the lights, and the extra large pixels from being only 1080 do help in the dark, you don't have headlamps at the rear and the extra sensitivity is good, plus extra large pixels improve the dynamic range. If you are going to use the extra large pixels to the full, you really want HDR though, not sure if this has it, the old Omni does on the front.

I've got a red and white one, I like it. From a practical point of view, it is a bit pointless, black is more sensible, but given that it keeps talking to you, turning to look at things and has a face on the LCD, it is nice to be able to see it.

Maybe they should do a White and Green version called Idris, with a Red Dragon face on the LCD 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It was the smarts where it was lacking, the 1080 worked, but 4K should sell better.

Always good to have some proper choices between things that are very clearly different.

Hope they have it working properly standing up on the dash too, the last one started off working well standing up ("upside down"), but got confused after a firmware update.

I never tried that, my DIY dashmat obscure my dash so would have to cut a hole in the fabric to stick it there.

You have red and white of the new 4k one? Would be nice to have options I suppose.

Hopefully does have HDR on the rear, I know that the front drops to 4k30 from 4k60 when there's the rear connected but that's ok.

No thanks with the Welsh colours, I'm half Welsh myself and not that patriotic lol

No, the 1080 version, I'm wondering if they are going to continue with red and white, or change to other colours, or just drop it for black!

They would not sell well in Oz! But I can imagine Orange ones selling well in the Netherlands, a bit of variety is good, most dashcams have no choices, that was something special about the Mk 1 Omni.

They wouldn't I know a couple of Welsh here but far in the minority. Too many English people though here that's for sure

Good to have colours to make it fun, but kinda defeats the purpose of making dashcams stealthy and not to draw attention.

making dashcams stealthy and not to draw attention
I had a situation yesterday where I think the visibility of my test dashcam possibly influenced the behaviour of another driver. After hitting my parked car the driver reversed back, looked straight at the camera, then proceeded to park nearby and leave a note to apologise. I do wonder if she would have done the same thing if the camera was not visible.

Aside from that incident, I generally support the idea of dashcams being stealthy. I don't like the sticky pads or the cameras being too obvious from the outside.

I'm not sure if it is better for dashcams be hidden or highly visible, just the shape of the Omni makes it visible, so better to make it colourful too.

I haven't seen much evidence of being invisible helping, except maybe for some people incriminating themselves without noticing the dashcam. Normally people seeing a dashcam start to behave better, rather than trying to steal the evidence. Tony's lady, instead of leaving a note, could have broken into the car and stolen the dashcam and evidence, but like most people she chose the other option. Everybody knows that some dashcams are cloud connected, most don't know that the Omni is, most aren't, but it can be, so not worth the risk.

That's a positive outcome, but guess it go the other way where drivers may see red and seeing a dashcam would aggravate them more. I think overall like you I support the idea of them being stealthy. Rather have the footage to have evidence of an incident etc.

It's interesting how they presented the installation of the supercapacitor. I agree with their points, but it does make me question why they relied on batteries for so long.

Supercapacitor The new built-in supercapacitor system is your ultimate solution for reliable performance!
It withstands extreme working temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F) and boasts an impressive lifespan capable of handling hundreds of thousands of charge cycles without sacrificing performance.
Plus, it's designed with the environment in mind, making it a more eco-friendly choice!

Some fun voice features.
Control your dash cam with voice commands. The supported languages are English, Italian, Japanese and Mandarin (when the dash cam’s broadcast language is Traditional Chinese).

When you Speak these wordsResult
Take photo Photo taken (Doh) lol
Record Video Yep it records video as an emergency video
Record Audio Will record Audio AND Video not sure at this stage if it is consider a emergency recording
They are all very intuitive commands I think.
Saying record video may help in reducing stress if that is a stressful situation?
The other commands
Turn off Audio
Enable hotspotWiFi
Disable hotspot
Switch to front viewonly works if the rear camera is fitted - makes sense.

Switch rear view only works if the rear camera is fitted - makes sense.
Capture leftThis is a great improvement in wording as previous models it was Shoot left/right something I wouldn't want to say in some countries!
Capture Right
Capture inside
Camera resetNo it doesn't reset the camera to it default firmware which might be what first comes to mind. Camera reset just returns the lens to the pre-set start position e.g. usually to point to the front of the car.
Take Selfie
Shoot VlogI never thought I would ever use this in the x200 but it is a lot of fun and also gets a snape shot of what's happening all around you. I love this feature lol.

You can find this information on page 7 in the manual. (Draft version of my manual)

The implementation of Selective Image Processing enables the
Dash Cam to proficiently identify and reinforce crucial elements
such as license plates and road signs. Simultaneously, it diminishes
the clarity of extraneous objects like road trees,
resulting in an
optimal utilization of computational power.

So if your Road Trees have poor clarity, that will be because they are extraneous objects, so diminished clarity is good 😎

The next-generation AI Motion Detection 2.0, driven by our latest self- developed AI algorithm and dual Hall Effect Sensors, offers unparalleled tracking accuracy.
I don't think they are using dual Hall Effect Sensors to track the Vandals, so I guess that just says that its motor spins the lens around more accurately than the previous version? Obviously you need AI to make a motor spin these days, maybe it predicts where the Vandals are going to be in time to have the lens arrive, pointing in the correct direction, as the Vandals arrive at that position within the image?

Lets just see some video of it tracking people as they move around the car, doesn't matter if it uses AI or not, only if it works or not...

Sounds like it's the motor like you said spinning it better. Lots of fancy speak but as you say, as long as it performs faster and more reliably than the old Omni, it's a win.

Yeah stuff the trees on the side of the road. We want better licence plates and car capture action!

I'm not fussed about trees but it would be great if it can capture people on the side of the road especially at night without the image being a blurry image.

That seems to elude many dash cams.
