A119 V3 hardwire/GPS question

I'm getting ready to install the hardwire kit on a 2017 Ram in the overhead console. I have the A119 V3 with GPS. Question is Viofo says to hook to the camera instead of the GPS, is this right?
Will the GPS function getting power from the camera?

In the manual that I received, on page 6, it says "For GPS version mount, use the female Mini USB port on the mount or on the camera's side", so I guess you could use either. I will probably plug it into the GPS unit when I mount mine.

You can use either. GPS will still work when you power direct to the camera.

Only the V3 GPS works this way and not V2 GPS. The V3 GPS will have V3 GPS printed on it.

As long as GPS function works when driving, and camera when parked, that's what I need. My posi-taps and extra V3 GPS will be in Saturday. Should go fairly smoothly...I hope.

I assume your using the 3-wire kit correct?
