This is a simple project, nothing complicated, but I've ended up with a compact, so far reliable and discreet system with 20+ hrs of parking video, without impacting the car's battery.

Although it's my first dashcam I've been encouraged by all the DIY projects on DCT and felt confident that I could do a good job.

First I setup my first dashcam (JooVuu X) with an adapted mount as the one that came with it was too long and indiscreet for my requirements.

Also I am using, for parking mode at times a powerbank which was originally stick with double-sided tape to the inside of the central armrest box (which has a pair of 5V USB sockets), but that wasn't strong enough, so decided to make a custom cradle that fits snugly inside: preventing the powerbank sliding around, keeps it secure, with the USB cable plugs free from pressure (between powerbank and USB socket) and ready to swap powerbank whenever home charging is necessary.

The cradle was made out of very stiff card from the bottom of a Clementines box. I'd been looking for suitable stiff black plastic, but didn't have any handy. Using a craft knife I cut out two pairs of slots for the elastic (from a craft shop). A couple of coats of matt black paint (added at the local theatre I help out at), then each elastic loop was joined with staples, superglued flat, then covered with gaffer tape. Total cost 20p!

Liking the innovation and the economy approach (y) Now that you're done, the perfect piece of black plastic will magically appear- I call that normal as that's how it always works here
