I have 2 Viofo A119s in my cars, and want to take one along on a trip with a rental car to record the scenery and any unforeseen automotive experiences. I realize it's not designed for use with a suction cup, and the several adapters that I have purchased all have top fitting that are too narrow and small–7mm rather than 10 mm. Does anyone know of an adapter that can be purchased that will permit the use of this with a standard suction cup or rear view mirror mount? Thanks very much!

You might consider using 3m Dual-Lock for temporary mounting in the rental. Holds firmly but can easily be removed from the rental car glass and is versatile enough that you can remove the camera from the car if you don't want to leave it installed unattended.

Smiley,
Did you ever figure anything out for your A119 mounting issue? I'm using 2 rubber bands on the rearview mirror!
Peace,

Actually we decided not to bother with the camera in the rental car. I think if I was going to do it again, I would probably use either the 3M dual lock (which seems like an over fancy and expensive Velcro) or simply use a strip of regular or more likely industrial-strength Velcro and be prepared to remove the adhesive residue on the windshield of the rental car.

I am a shuttle driver so I'm in at least 5 different vehicles per week in which I want my A119. I found a great solution. My GPS, a Garmin 3790LMT, has the perfect suction mount for the A119 (Garmin Part Number: 010-11478-00). I just attached the adhesive from the GPS module on the A119 to the bracket part of the suction mount. It is absolutely perfect. Of course now I have to buy another mount for my GPS but no big deal as they're only $20 on Amazon!

Thank you, that looks like a really good idea. I will give it a try. Harry

That's great, thank you for that. I was wondering how you managed to put that all together. It's amazing how pictures can answer so many questions so quickly. Harry

Yes, the Garmin model works (https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/67645/pn/010-11478-00). Can't speak to the magnetic one. I have two of the Garmin models–I used them with the cameras in the rear of both my cars. Because of the defrosting elements in the windows, I have to attach the cameras to the top of the rear seat. I attach the base plate to the seat top, and the suction mounts to the base plate. So far over a several month period they have worked ok but keep falling down. The suction mount comes off the base plate. I have since replaced them with a fixed mount, IG-PSTARA: Mini Adhesive Console Car Mount Low Profile for Garmin Nuvi GPS. While the Garmin model does not work on the back seat attachment, it does work well for the front windshield though.

This suction mount came off once, but was easily reattached and has worked since for quite a while.
Can you post pictures of ur setup when u get a chance? Also dose it vibrate and shaky video or no problem at all?

This is the best option I've found so far, it's very sturdy too.

I have not noticed much in the way of shaking on the video when it's attached to the top of the back seat as pictured with the suction mount. I've only screened a few samples though–whatever I have looked at seems to look fine. The roads here in Los Angeles are terrible and therefore there are many bumps and much shaking, but that's unavoidable. Another choice, other than the one mentioned below which seems pretty good, is the portable friction GPS mount from garman, https://www.amazon.com/gp/B0035JL4V2. I have used this as well. Here there is much shaking. Every time you go over a bump you can see the unit shake. I still think the videos are usable, just not ideal. It's better to have a fixed attached mounting of some kind. Elsewhere on the site there are pictures of the A119 used with this Garmin friction Mount and pictures of the A119 used with the suction cup Garman mount as well.

I bought the viofo mount and just tried to use it. The little threaded collar that tightens the ball socket won't Tighten with out trying to cross thread. If I pop the ball socket joint out the collar will thread right on. Not at all happy with that. I might try to get a replacement.

You guys inspired me so I grabbed some leftover wood plus my old dashcam single screw mount and a tape measure, then made my own a118c2 attachment with a Dremel tool. I am not very good with this stuff but I'm quite proud how it turned out :)!
