Aftermarket alternative M12 lenses for your dash or action camera

A handful of members here on DCT have spent a lot of time and effort exploring, experimenting with and testing a range of alternative aftermarket M12 lenses for their cameras. This has primarily involved the Mobius action cam that is designed for easy lens replacement and focusing but also now an increasing variety of other action and dash cams.

Another member, @country_hick, recently requested a "tutorial thread" about lenses in general and how to select one for purchase so this thread is intended to serve as a place for general aftermarket lens discussion where members can share information, learn the basics, ask questions and discuss all things related to purchasing, installing, focusing and using alternative M12 lenses in dash cams and action cams.

I've dabbled mostly with the telephoto variety, tried 8 and 12mm 'cost-effective' and 'high-performance' 3MP lenses from Minritech and Treeye. The 5MP 8 and 12mm from Fulekan have been the best so far.
