Akaso C200 is a budget-friendly dash camera (costs $36-40). Because I found no review around, here are my impressions based on a week of using it.

Unboxing
The assembly has a few accessories. Attaching to the windshield happens via a suction cup. There is a long charger with mini-USB port, and made out of high quality – even has a ferrite bead – which for such a budget friendly item is a wonderful surprise! And I haven’t seen ferrite bead on much more expensive models like Viofo’s A119 Pro. There also is a communication USB cable.

Build quality and Features
As expected – the Akaso C200 covered by cheap-grade plastic, it does look like a camera with a large adjustable lens. Which is of course a gimmick. Placement of buttons and ports is fantastic – controls are marked with icons on the screen edges, and there’s no way doing it wrong. Hardware-wise – doesn’t shine – modest sensor and chip set, but for a dash camera this is more than enough. The sensor used is GC2023 and the chipset is JL5601. Among the advantages – a 3-inch display, 170-degree angle of view, motion detection, parking mode and even an embedded 180 Mah battery.
Feature-wise menus are rich on functions. Only supported resolutions are 1080p and 720p, both at 30FPS, which might not be too steady. You may enable wide dynamic range, and motion detection and adjust the white balance on the footage. And probably you can notice the not astonishing quality of the display – again – it is hard to complain about a 3-inch display included with a 40-dollar dash camera.

Footage & Performance
I do not like the color theme, and that is more of a personal preference – you may find it nice. Because of its simple design and lack of smart functions – there have been no unpleasant surprises. The algorithm shuts down the camera 10 seconds after it is disconnected from power. I love how adjustable its holder is. You can turn it in many different directions, even use it as a rear camera. Quality of the video is not great, but quite acceptable for fullHD. There is one thing I noticed though – the sound and video are getting out of sync after a minute or two – and that may be a sign that the chipset may be a little overloaded. Or is simply a firmware glitch. If we slow down a second of footage there are no obvious doubled frames.
