Aldi (UK) Voyager Dashcam 2018

would need to see the front to be able to ID it, none of their previous ones have been great, I would be surprised if this was any different

Hi there,

Aldi UK are currently doing a £50 dash cam for 2018, but I can't find any reviews.

https://www.aldi.co.uk/1080p-dashboard-camera-/p/069859032077700

It looks sold out (or not yet released) online, but will be in store this week.

Anyone got experience of this unit, or recognise it as a rebranded Dashcam from another manufacturer?
It says it has a big lithium battery, so it wouldn't be of interest to people here.

That's a different picture than what was there yesterday, maybe something they've done via Nextbase, I don't know that the manufacturer offers this tooling to other customers

I agree, this is the latest offering from Aldi. I forgot to add the Nextbase link for comparison. Maybe Nextbase have done a special with it being their cheapest model and Aldi do have a big customer base. https://www.nextbase.co.uk/dash-cams/212-lite-cam/
You could always buy the Aldi one and take it back if it isn't as good as you expect.

Aldi is saying this item is no longer available.

You're quite right, the second listing for the camera[in your post] is showing as available, but, in the first post only the first listed camera is shown.

According to their leaflet it's available from today 24th may

Says you, I'm very much interested in battery cameras.

Nextbase and Voyager-systems support are both based at unit 2 Caerphilly business park, so if they are separate companies, they're definitely working together where the dashcams are concerned

I have just bought this, and am just getting used to it. I've not had a dashcam before, so I've no experience of one to compare it with. I DO feel it's strange, that I switch it off (or I think I do) when I take it off the mount, but it seems to come back on again by itself. The other thing is that it comes with a really long wire. That is good, in a way, because you know it will reach your cigarette lighter, for power, but the excess does get in the way a bit.

I have just plugged the micro sd card into the computer via the adaptor, so I can view my filming, and I'm finding that compelling :) However, I am at work presently, and I want to save this footage, but it's asking me to download (and pay for!) Quicktime plug-in. So I'm not sure about that. I want to save it, because the advice on the leaflet is to format the card every two weeks, so I will lose the first bits of footage.

It also seems to film in little 'chunks' of data, not actually continuously, as such. Is that normal for a dashcam?

Regards

Oh, another thing - my son says to not take it out when I leave the car, but leave it in place in case anything happens whilst I'm gone. Is that good advice? and don't you worry that someone will break your car glass to steal it? Ta

Mine is actually different to the one pictured in the link here: https://www.aldi.co.uk/1080p-dashboard-camera-/p/069859032077700
It is not so square, and the power cable goes in the top. The mount is different, too, mine looks more compact, and did not come with an SD card. I had to buy mine separately. This is mine: https://www.aldi.co.uk/voyager-dash...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CJCD8qjwsNsCFcTjGwodoyAL8g

you'll probably find a lot of useful info in the Nextbase section of the forums

I noticed the second customer review in the last link:

★★★★★ 1 out of 5 stars.

Doomed due to premature battery failure?
I have had eight dashcams from Aldi in the last three years, all of which have failed due to battery issues. The brand name "Maxtek" comes to mind. The Aldi/Maxtek UK handling agent Qu**h will not support battery replacement outside of warranty hence I will not buy any more of these from Aldi, who I believe needs to review its choice of importer/wholesaler.

✘ No, I do not recommend this product.
