We implemented a file uploading to the FTP server feature. Does anyone want to test it?

1. It supports uploading all of the files on the memory card to the server. We found some business customer interested in this feature, they want to upload all of their files automatically while the car is parked near the office or home.

2. Only uploading the events files. While there is locked files saved, it will automatically enable Wi-Fi station mode and connect the hotspot, then complete the file transfer. After the files transfer are completed, Wi-Fi will be turned off.

Personally, I set a monitor on the directory of the FTP server, while there is a new file is uploaded, it can send an email notification.

If you have other comments of this feature, please let me know, thanks.

An optional automatic power off into LPID after all the files have downloaded would be nice, for people who park in their dark garage at home and don't need to record darkness all night. If it doesn't connect to the home wifi because it is not at home, then it should use whatever parking mode has been configured, and not power off.

Hopefully it only uploads new files that are not already uploaded, otherwise files on large memory cards may get unnecessarily uploaded many times!

That’s an interesting idea! If the implementation turns out to be as straightforward as the concept, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your success and looking forward to seeing the results.

Yes i would like this ability.
Please use ftps.
Implement rsync as it handles files better and can pick up transferring if file xfer was interrupted.

How does the dashcam know when to enable the WiFi?

If there's a home internet-connected camera and the phone is connected to the same home network, the phone should be able to automatically connect to the application. It would be a good idea to provide a connection over the shared network with an additional password to prevent anyone else on the shared network from accessing the camera.

This recommendation doesn't meet the data transfer needs of the businesses mentioned above.

Furthermore, the need to store this data over the network means that recording stops immediately.

In short, the need to store all data is only necessary if there are security cameras at home or work. However, if there are no cameras on a busy street, there won't be any recording of damage or events that might occur during data transfer.

Additionally, many users are experiencing battery and accumulator issues in newer-generation vehicles. Particularly with mild hybrid technology, users are experiencing malfunctions in the battery, alternator, and starter motor triangle.
My research indicates that some vehicle manufacturers discourage the use of cameras for these reasons.
Users often opt for lower resolution, disable GPS, or turn off the camera lights while parking to maximize data recording. While lower consumption is preferred, using Wi-Fi will also impact overall recording time.

How does the dashcam know when to enable the WiFi?
For events only option, while there is a new video locked, it will start the Wi-Fi connection automatically, after uploaded the new file, Wi-Fi will be turned off.

Yes i would like this ability
Can you set a switch to turn off the camera recording on the host

Businesses might be prepared to pay for a dashcam with 4G LTE connection that simply mirrors all files to the cloud, as a background task, while active.

I think I got a little confused - Would the hotspot be in the car? I was thinking what would happen if it could not connect to the hotspot? Would it delay and try again? If your hotspot is at home and the car is away from home for several hours, would it just keep wifi enabled all that time?

Greetings from Finland. The first writing to this forum.

I am about to purchase a new dashcam for my wifes' new shopping cart EV (VW ID4) and most probable it is going to be A329 2CH. Just waiting for the release of HK6 and naturally also waiting for a suitable discount from Viofo that I do not slip to check Blackvue offerings šŸ˜‰

This FTP would be really an excellent feature. I use event based ftp upload to home server for most of my surveillance cameras. 200Tb home server can hog this data too easily.

Just a couple of questions:
1) What do you mean by uploading all files? Is it like synchronizing the files in Viofo with the file server or moving files to the server (= ul only or ul+del) ? It would be great if after successful upload the file is deleted from Viofo. If it is only upload how does it keep record which files have been transferred already or does always run ftp batch script just to move all files regardless have the files been already uploaded or not. Some kind of indexing or active logging?

2) The WIFI is by events? What do you mean by an event? Is it a timer event or picture event or collision event or what? It would be more useful to either use GPS =Geofencing (not preferable) or timer. Timer event based connection attempt is multiple times better. Using timer dashcam would try to connect like once in an hour (radio on/off) and if the connection succeed (meaning that the dcam is near the home AP) then do the transfer operations and shutdown. Other event based connection is not so good for this purpose. This FTP event needs a trigger which may not happen for a long time if it is not timer event. In business if the truck stay all night in yard and nothing happens and thus event is not triggered it is a waste of excellent transfer time to just wait for an event. if the card (+ssd) is full and the WIFI connection is weak it will take a long time to upload all the files. Viofo should maximize the available transfer time in bad wifi conditions.

1. For uploading all files, it will upload all of files on the card to the server, the current version will not delete the file on the card after deleted.
2. For events only, it will only upload the locked videos under the RO directory. Like if you have a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car, and locked an important video while driving, it can automatically enable the Wi-Fi and completed the transfer.

Yes, please let me know more.

I'd love to be able to test this, we have lots of commercial customers at Fit My Dash Cam.

that would be HORRIBLY expensive.
Especially with the size of the files on VIOFO units. 4G data (IoT plans) are usually more than 1$/GB.

Yes, I would be very interested. I am coming from the BlackVue DR900X-2CH and miss this feature on the a329s 3ch 4k.

This sounds awesome, especially if you have a WiFi hotspot in the car and want instant backups. Could it apply to parking recording too? If so and we're using auto event detection, could we have it upload impacts only, but not motion, to avoid excessive uploading?

If we only have WiFi at home, how would it handle that situation? Perhaps checking to see when you park, turning on WiFi to check for the home WiFi, and then uploading if you're home and it can access the WiFi, but shutting off WiFi otherwise in case you're at a restaurant or work or something?

Thinking of Blackvue's implementation, what do you think of an option to upload at reduced resolution if we prefer, as well as to choose which camera(s) to upload footage from?

Also for security, can we do SFTP instead of FTP?

It supports only uploading the impact parking videos, like in impact mode, after the recording, the camera will complete the transfer before it enter the standby mode.

It doens't support uploading reduced resolution file, it is possible to choose which camera to upload, but not implemented yet.

We are checking if we need to implement the SFTP or FTPS, those are different protocol.
