Dash Cam
Mini 0803, G1W, Viofo A129
Hy people!
I am finding for a new dashcam, because my Viofo A129 Duo is no focus. So I see today a Baseus VD1 Dashcam on Aliexpress. Anyone knows if this camera is good? What sensor it uses? The price is good and baseus is a great brand.
If someone cam talk about it, please, write here!

Sensor is GC4653 in the spec on that aliexpress page. It seems to be very new, about a month old. Only thing about it on youtube is a short promo and AI trash, and not listed on BaseUs official pages.

One interesting feature is that tiny solar panel in the mount, I doubt it can provide enough power to make a difference.

Solar Sync System - Solar Steady, Record Ready.

I don't know what it does, but the solar panel could easily charge up the super capacitors with enough power for the g-sensor to detect an impact and record a few seconds of video, a little after the event. I doubt it would be more than 5 seconds of video per event, probably less, but that is better than nothing, and it would work even if the power socket is powered off while parked. Yes, an interesting feature.

With that cheap Chinese sensor, it is not going to be close in image quality to a new Viofo with Sony HDR, probably lower image quality than your old Viofo A129 Duo. It does say on that image above that it uses analogue HD for the rear sensor, while the A129 Duo uses modern digital video!

My guess is that it is quite decent for the price though, that sensor is not bad, just cheap.

The price range for dash cams really varies a lot. Would anything under 100 be considered cheap?

$100 is cheap for some people, expensive for others!

However, for most people, $100 won't buy you two tanks of fuel, it is less than 1 tank for for some vehicles. If we are talking EVs then it won't buy you two tires, EVs eat a lot of tires!

It is also a small fraction of many people's annual insurance cost, and hopefully the dashcam will not need renewing annually.

So I think it is reasonable to consider $100 a cheap price for a dashcam, which is there mainly to save you significantly more on future insurance costs, it has to be seen as an investment, and if it fails to perform then it is a poor investment. If you drive a lot at night then you should invest in a dashcam that has good HDR, all of which are > $100. For daytime only, some sub $100 cameras are quite decent, but your chances of reading license plates are still much higher if you have a dashcam with a telephoto lens, which you won't get for $100.

I am considering take it, because Viofo is better, but is more more expensive...Viofo was a good option in the past, nowadays is very high prices...Another option is Xiaomi 810S, but the prices is barely a Viofo A229, a little less.

I'm not really familiar with the brand and not expecting much given the image sensor selection. That said, I'm curious how well the solar part works. My guess is that with those little calculator-sized solar cells, it's probably just charging up and topping off the internal capacitors to give it extended non-buffered impact detection parking recording or something. Assuming that works well, it's not a bad idea tbh, especially if you have a low power parking mode option. It would also give you the option for some limited parking mode features without having to hardwire the dashcam or hook it up to a car battery or dedicated dashcam battery.

Thank you for sharing. It was very convincing. A dash cam with HDR and priced under 100 dollars really sounds like a great deal!

The Baseus VD1 Dashcam is a dual-camera (front 3K + rear 2.5K)
The front is what is normally known as 2K, and the rear is what is normally known as 1080, or FHD, or 1K.

It is true that the front is closer to having 3000 pixels horizontally than it is 2000 pixels, but every other manufacturer still calls that 2K, or sometimes 2.5K. 1080 is never called 2K, even though it would be a sensible name for it!

I bought it today, when arrives here (Brazil) I told you if is a good gadget or not. Brazil taxes is very high, Viofo and 70mai 810 is very expensive here with taxes.

Mine unit arrived today. I will make a video with review and opinion.

Hey mate i found a very big discount on that dash, ik considering buying it, can you share some footage and your opinion on it?
Thanks
Hi, in my opinion is a good ideia for the price. I paid $57 dollars for a model with rear camera. I save a youtube video (but on youtube the video is bad)

Brand is fantastic when it comes to charging cables, I've had and used a million of them and they're very cheap and perform great for what they do. But they do foray into other products and this seems like a swing and a miss, as I saw somewhere else it may have the IMX335 - don't get me wrong, fantastic sensor back in the day but severely outdated today.

For the price they're charging, it seems like they're trying to pull the wool over people's eyes.

I am looking at this camera as I want it for mainly parked mode, and not hardwired and this seems to fit my needs at a reasonable price. I am not great at any sort of DIY but was it easy to hid the cables from the front to the rear camera?
