I realize that most people use the GoPro for this type of recording, but I was wondering if there are other cameras that can be attached to the outside as the GoPro that are as good or better. presently I sinply use my Samsung Galaxy S5 attached to my old Garmin windshield clamp. It does the job, but would like to have the optionof different points of view.

There is a lot of cheaper than gopro action cameras on the marked, the latest to hit is the xiaomi which have its own subforum in there.

There isent really any dashcams to go on the outside on a permanent basis, but the innovv C3 is a camera on a wire ( HDMI ) witch can be extended outside.

Another better one is the panorama X1 / Street Guardian SGZC12RC which allso have a camera on wire ( USB ) that can allso be extended.
But this one demand a DIY suction cup mount to be made, or maybe one using a neodynium magnet to grab on to the steel of your car.

In either case you will allso have to ducttape the wire to your car, but the + is you can use the camera as a regular dashcam for every day driving, just put camera in mount on your windscreen with shorter wire.

Another action camera i have my eyes on is the Panasonic HX-A1
Like many action cams it only have 1 hour battery time, but it have a extension battery as addons or a USB power bank can be used to power it for longer time.
It allso record in 2 minute segments like dashcams, and overwrite old footage if memory card fill up. But i am not sure it start recording with key on like all dashcams do.

BUT i would assume a camera with 60 FPS is to prefer for the fast paced action, and this rule out most dashcams and the HX-A1 from panasonic as its only 30 FPS 1080P
