Hi everyone, new to the forum and dashcams in general so I have some maybe noob questions about my new N4S:

1. Can I keep WiFi on or should I turn it off after transferring my videos to my smartphone?

2. Will the remote controller work with WiFi off? How do I set it up?

3. What is the best method to copy my videos off the camera if I'm concerned about its longevity? Through WiFi or by taking the SD card off? It feels like the SD card mechanism isn't designed for frequent removal in mind.

4. My old Viofo A119 dashcam had focus issues because its lens was damaged (focus drift?) due to strong sunlight/heat (was what I was told atleast). How do I make sure this doesn't happen to my new N4S? I got a CPL, will it help?

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend to disable it if you don't need it. Otherwise it could create unnecessary heat and power draw.

Yes, it will work with WiFi off as well. It will automatically detect it.

Since the N4S isn't 4k, the file sizes aren't that huge. WiFi works fine but if you take out the SD card and take a look at the files on your PC it's much quicker.
The mechanism won't suffer. I've frequently removed and inserted the SD card to take a look at the files.

I haven't had any issues with focus drift on Vantrue units. If the focus is good when you receive the unit, it should stay the same.
A CPL won't have any impact on this.

@Julian23 Thanks for the reply!

I just noticed that the WiFi turns on automatically every time the unit starts. I'll have to turn it off manually every time before setting off, how do I stop it from turning on unless I tell it to?

I'll try it and report

I thought it would protect the lens from getting too hot since my car sits in the sun often 😅

With WiFi, make sure you change the default password, especially if it turns on every time. You don't want someone being able to guess the default password and access your private dashcam footage.

True. @Jeff_Vantrue, why is WiFi turned ON by default?

By your own admission, keeping WiFi perpetually turned ON will lead to

The power consumption of the camera will be significantly increased, and cause high temperature and affect the camera’s work;

Is this issue no longer a concern with the N4S?

Thank you fpr your questions, WiFi on the dash cam has three modes: On / Off / Auto.
The default setting is Auto, which means the dash cam will turn WiFi on at startup. If no device successfully connects within 10 minutes, the WiFi will automatically turn itself off.
If you prefer not to use this feature, you can simply change the WiFi setting to Off in the menu.

Thanks for the reply! Can you please clarify how the remote controller work with WiFi off? If it's connected via bluetooth, won't the power consumption and the heat of the main unit go up with bluetooth ON (In which case I'd rather use voice commands than the remote)

The remote controller works via Bluetooth, but don’t worry, the Bluetooth power consumption is extremely low and can be ignored. It will not noticeably increase the unit’s heat or affect battery usage.
