First question: I need a not sophisticated camera to record 10 hours of driving in about 10 GB memory. I don't mind if the resolution is low (e.g. 640x480) and low fps (1 fps is very fine too, actually ideal as the resulting movie would be only 20 minutes long if viewed at 30 fps). What are the recommendations for non expensive cameras? My need for this is that I have a 40-day trip coming and a total of 400 GB of time-lapse is acceptable for me to save for the whole trip in a backup. Of course, I would save the resulting movies once a day (at the hotel) in a portable hard drive and then empty the SD memory.

Second question: is the camera able to be charged by car battery (i.e. by using a cable connected to the lighter)?

maybe look at a Mobius 1, don't recall if the res goes that low but it's about the most configurable camera that is closest to your needs, you can buy car mount and charger for it

The Mobius 1 can shoot 848x480 video as low as 5 fps.

It can also do highly customizable time-lapse video.
