Can alert emails be disabled?

I've already unchecked the email notifications option in preferences, but I'm still getting emails when there are any posts in a thread I've participated in. I want to keep alerts so when I login, I can see what threads have been updated, but I don't really need email notifications of the same throughout the day & night. Is there an option somewhere else that I'm not aware of?

I've been looking around my settings panel and I can not seem to find a way to disable the emails only the Alert Preferences that the site itself pops up when someone Likes or Reply to something you said

Email notifications in preferences should do it. The other place to disable it is when you watch a thread. It will ask you if you want email notifications. Perhaps unwatch then rewatch a thread without email notifications.

Well I didn't get any emails for this thread, so something must be going right. I'll try the unwatch / rewatch on a couple of threads and see. Thanks.
