Hi, I'm brand new to dash cam world so I apologize if my question has been answered, but I did my due diligence in searching this forum and other sources and could not find any definite answer.

I have a dash cam in a driver window, but I was wondering if I can use the back up camera my vehicle came with for rear recording by using portable DVR (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/B00A0JMY8C). Anyone used other DVRs?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Welcome to forum.
In theory you can use, it's just VGA resolution is not that great for 2014y, but still will do some job.
If it's an aftermarket reversing camera, then it more likely wired into the reversing light wire loom. You need to add a one way diode in order to stop reversing light to be triggered when rear camera will be working as DVR camera.
You going to spend more time, money and nervous in customizing your rear camera to be 2 in 1 ( reversing cam and rear cam recorder ) and end result is only VGA.
Best is to buy Mobius ( 70usd ), install it in rear windows and you will have a high-end product ( high end I mean@ price vs value ).
Some ideas are HERE

Thank you for your reply. It's not aftermarket camera, but I'm afraid you're right - resolution is not great so I'll go for a higher resolution camera.

I do not want to start a new topic. I came across the following https://www.ebay.com/itm/131088497534It seems to be a good idea to view what is behind your car but I did not see any videos of how it is actually working. Is there anybody here that knows more on this subject? Thank you

I believe it's pretty simple, it's just a backup camera without a monitor. It requires you to use your Android phone to watch the feed whenever you're backing up.

I don't believe it's meant to record what's going on, if that's your question. At that price point, you're probably better off getting a G1W and installing it in the rear of your car (I'm supposing what you're looking for is to record what's going on behind you).

Hello. No, I just wanted to know if someone has used this "gadget" to view what's behind the car and can say if this worth the money or not. Keep well
