I rarely top up my Cellink from the car 12v socket, but instead charge at home using a 12v adaptor. The other day, on going for an hour plus long drive, I thought I'd hook up the battery input to the 12v socket on my car. I was quite astonished to find on taking out the connector, after driving, that the tip of the connector was very hot to the touch. This can't be right?

My car is a new BMW (1200 miles on the clock now).

The car has 3 sockets in the cabin, so I will try another socket when I next get the opportunity; but would welcome people's thoughts.

edit: just wondering if I accidentally put it on 7A delivery, which should only used for hardwiring. Bit disconcerting if so, since the 3-way switch is small and has an uncertain feel to it.
