Cellink NEO Beep setting in App

Does the Cellink Neo App Beep setting only work if you have the unit hooked to your car or something. I just received mine and it has a charge. I flip the switch to low and it beeps as it powers up. I connect to it with my App and turn off the beep. I turn off the battery for a min and turn it back on and it still beeps. Tried this on high as well. Anyone else having issues turning off the beep? Is there a firmware I need for the battery? Thanks
 
Added information. The settings screen show F:152/A:1.7.8 at the bottom. I assume that is the firmware maybe.
 
Update. I found that it does not beep when you turn on the ignition and its plugged into the cigarette lighter receptacle which is good. Manually turning on the unit with the switch on the battery does cause the beeps. Maybe that's by design. Not sure. I can live with that.
