Change Audio Recording to Mono to save bandwith ?

Is there a script or firmware hack to record only mono?

Ho can i change the audio recording to AAC 256 kbit/s in mono?
Would make more sense than recording stereo from a mono source in 2 x 128kbit/s. :confused:
