Connection Question

I setup my Thinkware U1000, it was wanting the Thinkware as wifi for setup and then my phone hotspot for internet for the cloud. It works fine like this, but I would like the unit to run off the cars wifi like the Escort Radar detector does. So far it has been in vain. What am I me
missing. Thanks.
