I never had a flu shot, and I only get the flu once every few years,. And when I do get it, it's always much milder and runs it course much faster then with everyone else :)But in the last few years, colds which were once similar in nature for me, are more severe. Not complaining.

The flu jab is a guess, and not so long ago there was a year where they got it wrong. I didn't get it that year but everyone else did. And I've known plenty of people who got the jab but ended up getting the flu anyway o_O so I'm not so sure it's worth the cost and bother.

Whether just by bad luck or coincidence, one of my oldest and dearest friends got flu symptoms about ten days after getting a flu shot, which quickly turned into a case of pneumonia which killed him  As you all know, I;m not 'anti-vax' as such, but given what I've seen I doubt that there's much point in a seasonal flu jab and it might even be bad for some few people. The way I see it, you're probably equally well off without it as you build some immunity catching it, which will likely not have severe consequences if you do. And you may not get the flu at all. The seasonal flu jabs haven't been what they should be, that's for sure :cautious:

My hope is that with all the knowledge we've gained fighting Covid, maybe now we can do something better regards seasonal flus which are just another corona-virus anyway. And even if it doesn't help with the flu jab, at least now everyone knows the value of masks, social distancing, and reducing surface-contact transmission of these things which should go a long way to keeping the seasonal flu in check even without a jab, which to me is the ideal approach until we can devise one jab which is effective against everything

There does seem to be good evidence for having an annual lockdown every December! (June in the southern hemisphere.)

Unlike Covid, the lockdowns and distancing do seem to be effective against flu.

Seems a good chance that something will be developed to deal with all coronaviruses, and maybe the other colds too. Flu is different, but maybe we will kill it off eventually, seem to be doing a decent job now even without a good flu vaccine, but I doubt we can keep the distancing going, so it will come back after international travel returns.

, but I doubt we can keep the distancing going, so it will come back after international travel returns.

Perhaps, maybe even likely, but we may see some mandates being put into place for international travel such as pre-travel testing and mask use en-route to prevent vehicle-wide spread.

At some point we're going to have to face the fact that it was international travel which initially changed Covid from a more localized epidemic to a rampant pandemic, and that until we can stop these diseases we can best fight them by eliminating as much unnecessary international travel as we can, and by testing travelers to be sure they're not spreading disease.

The very numerous people who have been able to "work-at-home" through this makes it clear that there are lots of things we can change about how we do things without any significant loss that can go a very long way towards dealing with such things.

As I've said from the start, Covid is going to be a life-changing event for the whole world, and things will never be the same as before.

Imagine having to go past TSA first, and then after that the corona police at the airport.
As a person not liking to be felt up, i think flying will be out of the window for me.

I would rather die by the hand of a religious nutcase or by a skin eating decease than have "them" watch over me, granted the 2 examples will end my life, but "them" will ruin my whole life up until then.
Life is inherently dangerous like it or not.

Covid has shown that it can get around international travel restrictions, even Australia with its two week enforced quarantine in controlled "hotels"/"prisons" is still having trouble, currently searching for "missing links".

People will soon forget, they always do, like building in earthquake zones or under volcanoes! All it has done is to bring forward some changes that were going to happen anyway, such as increased use of zoom calls and productionising new vaccine technology.

The information is out there so why they continue to mass gather beats me.

Self inflicted.

Who's going to take care of them, everything has collapsed. They should just stay home!
True, it is not the best route to herd immunity, better for everyone to stay home or otherwise socially distance until everyone has had the vaccine; but most people will survive, and it is the quickest route to herd immunity. Many people can't wait long enough for the vaccine, we need to make the vaccine faster, especially with India now taking all the COVAX supply which was supposed to be shared out around the world! I think the world governments should have put 10x the money into building vaccine manufacturing facilities, but it is a bit late for that now, for this pandemic. Most world governments didn't invest, just left it to others, this is the result.

In south America they have a saying "plata o plomo" meaning silver or lead ( choose between monetary gain ( silver ) or death in the form of lead bullets. )
I am not going to come up with a Indian version of that as i do of course not want to offend anyone as no Indian have given me a reason to do that.

Exotic Indian double mutations have also been detected here, but no word on how they came here all the way from India.
Other sudden flare ups, and you almost get the names of everyone involved, a list of their classmates in school and a full medical history, but it is also sort of the same with crime in a way, many crimes here you are not told who the offender is, at best you get the sex and age of the offender, and thats about it.

I assume the reasoning is it is better if Danes fear everyone, then they know who exactly to stay clear off or dislike, or hate,,,,,, and i think good people, victim of a crime should hate the offender as most times he / she did not do the deed by accident.

From what I've read India is on most countries red lists now but they are sneaking out and into other countries via waypoints and selfishly infecting other countries.

The sneaky route to the UK was via Turkey but that route has been red listed now.

BTW i read some Italian girl / woman was given a whopping 6 doses at one time of the PB vaccine, apparently down there they load a syringe up and then just swap the needle out for each patient.
She is doing fine i hear, and will probably not have any problem with corona anytime soon.

Unlike several Danish mostly women, that though vaccinated long ago, barely have any antibodies.
And while this is not uncommon if you are on some treatment, then some of the girls the experts are just like ???? WTH did we inject them with saline instead of PB vaccine.

Unlike several Danish mostly women, that though vaccinated long ago, barely have any antibodies.
That is normal, not a problem, their immune system will make plenty more antibodies if it sees the virus, so they are still immune.

I wasn't speaking of ceasing international travel as a way to stop the spread, but as a way to limit and reduce the speed of the spread, while identifying hot-spots which can then be dealt with as needed without adversely affecting any others.

Diseases like this cannot be stopped but can be better controlled. And through requiring immunity and testing before allowing entry into other areas you eliminate "red lists" and eliminate the problem of persons circumventing restrictions by doing a 'travel stop' in a 'white listed' country which isn't restricted. The only other viable alternative is to completely stop all international travel when a possible pandemic arises and it should be as clear to you as it is to me that such a thing will not happen.

Otherwise we get to deal with something like Covid again and again until we learn to do what needs doing or die from our own stupidity by doing nothing when we can.

Phil

You are asking a lot from several billion of nitwits Phil :)
It will probably not be the new world order i was hoping for, but people will adapt and overcome as always.

I saw Italy are gearing up to welcoming tourists,,,,,, but probably just ones with a corona passport, and those will probably be the new black.

Seems that all those South East Asian countries that were largely immune to the original variant are not immune to the Indian variant and it is starting to spread, looks like bad news for any countries that aren't close to full vaccination, which appears to be all Asian countries, including Japan (trying to hold the Olympics!) and China.

In UK most of the new hospital admissions are now people who turned down the vaccine even though eligible to receive it! The number of covid hospital patients is still dropping though even with some Indian variant around, a total of 843 for England.

I just learned today my M8 will pass on the vaccine,,,,,, i would not do that if i was him given his physical condition.

It's just been on the news that the vast majority of the people in hospital in Bolton UK are the 'refuseniks' who are now imostly n intensive care.

Bolton is the UK India variant hotspot where there have been over 2,000 infections in the last week detected by surge testing.

My 64 year old neighbour is also a refusenik who for some reason doesn't trust the Gov or the NHS. Another neighbour and I had a go at him and told him to keep his distance when he told us yesterday and don't expect any help if he catches it.

Hehe i am sure these people all have bleeding heart stories if they come out alive.
More openings over here, but the mouth diapers will not go before everyone are shot up they say, not even for people already vaccinated, O no you wear that thing in solidarity,,,,,, say the socialist PM.
At least the Americans are sane on this, get your shots, and you can breathe again.
