BlackVue DR500GW-HD & DR650-1CH
I came across the Cowan AC1 dashcam, and wondered if anyone has any experience with it. Perhaps another project for DashCamMan?

(By the way, this is my first post. Thanks, DashCamMan, for putting all this stuff together!)

Nice find, does look the part, sleek, discreet and clear picture (albeit, manufacture taken).

Pity it does not have internal GPS or GPS capability.

I think we will see quite a few blackvue clones in 2013.

Be nice to get a manufacture to give that size and quality with internal GPS, triple lens (forward & internal lens on unit with seperate rear window lens plug in), battery backup and discreet fitting mount to window. drool...........

Personally I would be quite happy to pay a small premium for an 'all singing/dancing' camera. ;)

Hi erewhon,

Thanks for joining. I don't have direct experience with the Cowan AC1 dash cam. It is a nice looking cam, has a G-sensor, parking mode and the daytime video quality looks good. but there are a few negatives.

1. It is only 720p and the recording quality is not the greatest at night, especially in low light situations. Check out these real user videos, not videos from the manufacturer / seller.

2. No GPS

3. One of the Amazon reviews indicates the camera overheats. Might be an isolated incident but maybe not.

4. The price of $165 is too much

Considering the ITB-100HD is $170, has GPS, better video quality and perhaps more reliable, the Cowon AC1 is not that attractive for a Dash Cam. If it was priced under $120, than it might get more interest.

Thanks for the evaluation, DashCamMan.

I have been tending towards the ITB-100HD, as you suggest, and will most likely get it. I'll probably wait for the new model to become available.
