CPL-600 Fitment Issue on A329S Rear Camera

Has anyone else had trouble with the CPL-600 on the A329S rear (non-telephoto) camera?

On mine, the indentations only seem to line up on either the top or bottom, not both. That leaves a lot of vertical play, with no secure “click” to lock it in place. It feels a bit oversized and could easily fall off with a bump.

I’ve double-checked orientation but it still won’t seat firmly. The CPL-600 is listed as compatible with the A329S rear/telephoto cameras, so I’m wondering if this intended or I'm the only one?

I have this same setup, installed just a couple days ago. My CPL was a rather tight fit on the Rear cam.
I saw no markings of any kind that would indicate which way to install the CPL, or which way is "up".
It seems to be working though. It did not "click" in place but it did seat tightly.

Thanks for getting back to me, it's definitely snug but I could easily knock it off with little to no pressure. I'll see how it goes.

Orientation doesn't matter when it's square, as long as we're not rotating it 90 degrees, 180 will have the same result. Imagine invisible lines from top to bottom, they will be the same if flipped.

This is exactly what I figured, so I just installed it. The rear glass is tinted from the factory (not film tint) and the videos
were just a little darker than the front videos. I bumper the Rear cam EV to +0.3 and it seems to be good. The Front
and Cabin cams are both EV = 0.0.

Sorry for the interruption but why do we have 6 different CPL Filters in the first place.
Can we not just have a single modular design?
How much time, and manpower is diverted away from R&D to make better cameras?
Instead to make bespoke one off CPL Filters that will get phased out.

Sorry for the interruption but why do we have 6 different CPL Filters in the first place.

I find it difficult to determine which filter is needed for each camera. The text "CPL-500 Rear Filter" and "CPL-600 Rear Filter" implies that both of these are suitable for the REAR camera of the A329 / A329S series.

Is the CPL-500 just for the RTC300?

For the camera in the first picture you will need the CPL-500 and not the CPL600

Reason for that as far as I know:

The A329-Rear-Camera had a design without cooling vents
The A329S-Rear-Camera has a design with cooling vents

But for the early batches of the A329S 2CH Viofo still used the old Rear-Camera-Design (I suppose they had that still in stock and used it up) and that design needs the CPL-500

Regarding quality there is no issue with that. It is the same sensor and lens and same quality. Just different housing-design.

As far as I know they switched the camera housing to the version with cooling-vents because they use the housing for newer rear-cameras now in general.
And the 4K-Rear-Cameras like the A229 Ultra actually need the cooling vents while the 2K-Rear-Cameras don't need it.

I’m not following, what could be easier than memorizing all of this? lol

The number one thing that drives me crazy about Viofo is “lack of modularity".
From 1979-2012 (33 years) Ford had a modular vehicle platform, (front engine & rear wheel drive) that used the same;
1.) Engine
2.) Transmission
3.) Rear End Final Drive
4.) Full Frame Body On Chassis Design

Ford Crown Victoria
Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
Ford Crown Victoria Taxi Cab
Ford F-150 Truck
Ford E-150 Van
Ford Explorer
Ford Expedition
Mercury Grand Marquis
Mercury Marauder
Lincoln Town Car
(these also shared engine / transmission)
Ford Mustang

Many other components were also cross compatible like suspension, electronic, interior parts, etc.
They were able to pump out a sh*t load of different vehicles using the same parts bin.
This made parts cheaper, and maintenance & repairs took less time.
Quality, and fuel economy was poor compared to Honda & Toyota but, cheap plentiful parts made the true cost of ownership almost break even.

I wish Viofo had a fraction of the long term planning & modular platform from this era.
But I doubt it will ever happen.

I started with a CPL600 on the Telephoto cam, which actually clicked into place (almost) effortlessly.
I then got one for the rear camera, but that was a complete opposite. It was so tight I thought I might break something (either the filter or my fingers 😊) but eventually it went on, though it didn't click.
Seems to be on though.
