Custom firmware BlackVue DR550GW-2CH

v2.002 BASIS for the Custom Firmware 1.4

I cant find the link to download the custom firmware 1.4 ... Sorry I am new to this ...

New firmware 1.5
(new kernel, increased speed wi-fi)
is available for download: http://car-dvr.info/forum/index.php?topic=585.0

Great update! It fixed a problem I had watching videos on the Blackvue app using my iPhone 6.

With firmware 1.4, if 802.11N was enabled on the camera, I could not watch any videos from the app, only download them. Watching videos worked fine if the camera was using 802.11G so I left it on 802.11G.

Now with 1.5, everything works perfectly using the 802.11N! Very happy to receive the faster speeds.

This custom firmware blows the stock firmware out of the water. Thank you Alexsoll for sharing

Yes, now in the firmware maximum improvement.
Most likely updates will be no more.

xirc0m, don't mean to be rude (we were all new users on forums once) but alexsol already answered your question 3 posts up and instructions on how to obtain access to the custom firmware is found in earlier pages of this thread. I know you're a new user and things like this CAN be confusing so I'll try my best to help you obtain this.

Use the browser google chrome to navigate the Russian website, it has a built-in translator that will automatically translate the website.

-http://car-dvr.info/forum/index.php?topic=585.0 is the link to the thread for the 1.5 firmware.
-To be able to have access to the download link within that thread, you need to be a "donated user". Programmers spent time creating this, it costs money to run their servers where they host the firmware and raw files to test the firmware, all so we can continue enjoying custom firmware instead of being stuck with what the manufacturer gives us (the difference is day and night!). Register for a free account on their website using chrome's translate function (or google translate if you're using another browser). After that, make a donation. The paypal donate button is on the top right hand corner of the website. Alexsol will upgrade your account to "donated user" and then the download link for 1.5 will appear in the thread

I don't think you can upgrade directly from stock to 1.5 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I had to first install custom 1.3, then 1.4, and then 1.5.
-I posted step by step instructions on this thread to get to 1.4, 1.5 is the same instructions as 1.4: http://car-dvr.info/forum/index.php?topic=843.0

Keep in mind, 1.5 has a new kernel to improve the wifi speeds and so once installed, you cannot change back to stock. Stick with 1.4 if you think you might want to change back. They might release a patch to roll back but I haven't been following the Russian thread to see if this is going to be made.

I actually ordered the DR550 because of the custom firmware, wouldn't have considered it otherwise and it's been working flawlessly so there's no worries on my side about not being able to roll back.

Feel free to post if you need assistance, that's what this thread is here for. The developers prefer you post on the Russian thread if it's anything beyond installation help, in Russian and so chrome's automatic translation feature is a good tool to accomplish this.

A little bit of technical knowledge is needed to upgrade to the custom firmware. For those who don't want to put the effort into figuring all this out and have not ordered their camera yet, I see alexsol is providing a very cool service selling the blackvue units with the custom firmware pre-installed and customized to the settings you desire :https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threa...tc-study-the-demand-for-other-countries.9862/

Good luck!

Can anyone with the custom firmware from alexsoll tell me if there are any issues with the audio recorded by the camera. I am currently getting some terrible audio on the latest stock firmware.

I'd like to put the custom firmware (version 1.4) onto my BlackVue 550.

I have donated and downloaded two files from http://car-dvr.info/forum/index.php?topic=584.0

The two files I downloaded are:
DR550GW_2.002_1.3_nand.7z and DR550GW_2.002_1.4_final.7z

A post in this thread seems to indicate I can't go straight from factory to custom 1.4, I have to go factory -> custom 1.3 -> custom 1.4, correct?

Do I need any other custom firmware installed before installing 1.3 and 1.4?

The instructions at http://car-dvr.info/forum/index.php?topic=584.0 say that I need to ensure that the SDCard\BlackVue\Config folder contains upgrade.cgi. This file does not exist on my card. Where can I get it?

When copying the custom firmware to the SDCard, do I leave the .7z file as-is without unpacking?

Thanks!

Any comments? I'd really like to not fry a brand new camera.
Thanks :)
